Hum in Cornet2 with iRIAA
« on: 10 Dec 2010, 05:22 am »
The tubes arrived today for my recently completed Cornet2. Checked the voltages and they were all good so I hooked up the inverse iRIAA filter to my Tuner to start breaking in the Cornet. Of course I couldn't resist having a listen, and to say the least I was dismayed by the amount of hum I was hearing, I could hardly hear the music for the hum. So I unplugged the iRIAA filter and plugged in my turntable. The hum disappeared!  Just beautiful music.

Anybody else have a similar experience with the iRIAA?

OK, I should have done some more testing before posting   :duh:

I swapped the RCA cable between the iRIAA and the Cornet and most of the hum is gone, but not all. I also get a funny oscillating sound. I then swapped the cable between the tuner and the iRIAA but no difference. Hmmm.... the tuner is connected to an antennae  I then replaced the tuner connection with my ipod and ALL THE HUM IS GONE  :P

So in addition to help burn-in the Cornet, the iRIAA has also found a bad cable, and that I have a grounding issue with my tuner.
