40th Anniversary Edition?

For the past few days, the only thing on my turntable has been that anniversary edition of George Harrison's 1970 masterpiece All Things Must Pass, which on Nov. 26 will be released on vinyl and in a digital format (no CD!). Pressed on heavy-duty 180-gram vinyl, the three LPs (including the noodly "Apple Jam" session) come in a lift-top box with "original monochromatic album art" (plus a wicked big poster!). Co-produced by Harrison and Phil "Wall of Sound" Spector, it's the greatest Beatles "solo" album of all time. You could pick Lennon's Imagine, maybe McCartney and Wings' Band on the Run. But for sheer scope, ambition, emotional wallop and hits (My Sweet Lord, Isn't It a Pity), it's unparalleled. My favorite part? Harrison's slip 'n' slide guitar coming to the forefront during the last verse of What Is Life. Yep, I love my job.

Check this out, too:

I just got the new Eno album from England, 100 bucks for the most deluxe rendering possible (I will post separately). I just ordered the Stones Box vinyl, the first box, mainly because vinyl laura lady didn't! And I want the Grateful Dead box. Hopefully the ABBA box coming out next month sucks!!! Is it too narcissistic to think record companies conspire to release albums they just know I have to buy???

So, I'm gonna exercise real restraint here. I may even listen to my copy before I buy this one.

Oh yeah, I forgot those first three Elvis Costello reissues I just got.

Man, this is fun!

Is the newly remastered version available on amazon.ca?  The only one available on amazon.com is the 2001 version. Be careful!

The 24/96 hires version is excellent.

2bigears,
The boys may be right.
Check your order.
dminches comments alerted me, so I find this:

A remastered edition of All Things Must Pass, supervised by George, was released in 2001, just months before his death. This set contained bonus tracks, including a partially re-recorded additional version of My Sweet Lord. The remastered CD set is currently available at Amazon for $20.50.

In addition, to mark the 40th anniversary, Apple has released a numbered limited edition 3 LP vinyl box set of All Things Must Pass, available at georgeharrison.com for $68.99.
I am going to check Amazon.uk and see if there is a cheaper price.  I just ordered the Harry Potter movies, 1-6 in Blu-ray for less than $30, so this may an avenue to explore.  Satfrat does a lot of ordering to Amazon.uk, so he may know some other tricks.

Whoa! I think 2bigears is on to something!  Best price on the new pressing is Canada! Close to a hundred bucks everywhere else, it is
around $36 Canadian!  If I don't get hit with nasty shipping fees, and other stuff, this is the way to go!  Delivery is Dec. 7th.
Thanks, 2bigears!

Are you sure?
I think the one through the George Harrison site is like a more special limited edition.

And 2bigears, it is weird on the Canadian page, it says it is one LP.  That can't be, and below it says it is 3 LP's (that is correct).

I heard that the first wave is the numbered limited edition for Black Friday record store day.

The second wave will come afterwards, maybe in December, and will be a more commonly available un-numbered edition of the same LP set.

I haven't checked around, though, but the true online availability may not be what it seems for some of these specialty records. Like, you order it and then get an email saying it's out of stock or not available. Strange things can happen.

I'm waiting to see if I have any money left in January! 8)

The only place to get it now is ebay.  One seller has it for $75 plus shipping.  That isn't a bad price.

Unless you need the number copy, I think it's coming out again soon. It's digital. Sure, from the analog, but it's digital.

Supposed to sound good.

What do you mean, "it's digital?"

I think the original tapes were remastered with 24/96 resolution and that same mastering was used for the vinyl cutting.

I just reread 130 posts on the first George Harrison thread on stevehoffman and it isn't mentioned specifically. But I'm pretty sure that is what I read somewhere, somehow. If the Beatles remastering comes out on vinyl, I don't think they're gonna go back to the tapes and do it all analog.

I'm not trying to mislead or sound authoritative when I may not know what I'm talking about...

I saw a news release about the digital version to be available on georgeharrison.com.  I don't see it yet.  Anyone have a link or better info about the 24/96 digital release?  I'm in for that.

Having just been doing some needledropping with this new vinyl I can see for sure that they didn't simply use the 24/96 digital audio for the LP. In comparing LP audio captured at 192k to the downloaded 96k audio I can see, while in spectral mode, the 96k download audio tops out at around 30k. The LP audio reaches up to 60k fairly easily...
That doesn't necessarily tell us that the vinyl wasn't cut from the 24/96 source - the stuff over 30kHz you are getting back through your vinyl playback could be introduced in the LP mastering/manufacturing process (from cutting to pressing) or it could even be being introduced by your vinyl playback chain, couldn't it? (I have relatively little experience in this area so I could well be wrong )

Even if they did use the analogue master to cut the vinyl it could still have gone through A/D - D/A conversion in the chain from master to lathe (again, I may be wrong but I was under the impression that this has been the set up at Abbey Road for quite a few years - if so, has it changed recently?).

Do you find different results with other LPs? For example, does an LP you know is sourced from digital tapes (eg, post '87 Beatles) have a sudden cut off above the half-sampling frequency?"

On Amazon UK there is a link where you can preorder the vinyl set, it lists it as unavailable at this time.
