Interesting "small town" newstory.  If I recall, wasn't Bryston once based in Etobicoke?  If this was the case - why did Bryston move to Peterborough?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Hi ec,

It was a number of things but back in 94 we decided we wanted to purchase our own land and building and we looked at many options.  Peterborough was choosen because it was relatively close to our current main suppliers at the time and the cost of housing for our employees that moved with us was much lower than Toronto. Also it is ringed with lakes and is a great outdoors destination and cottage area - about 100 KMs north east of Toronto.

Also the pool of skilled people wanting to stay and work in Peterborough rather than the big city was excellent.

So looking back I guess economics and life-style choices were the two main ingredients.

James,

Thanks for the reply.  In the news story, it seems like the Bryston employees are quite relaxed just like the city of Peterborough.  That's a good thing compared to the go go go of the Greater Toronto Area.  I know of one company who will be relocating from St Catherines (similar to Peterborough: quiet, friendly town) to Burlington (bigger, more city like) and many of the employees plan to stay in St Catherines even though there will be relocation packages available to the employees.

Ya 'relaxed people'  =  'relaxed sound' :D

...and don't forget about Peterborough's famous Lift Lock (boat lift).
the dual lifts are the highest hydraulic boat lifts in the world. might have nothing to do with audio but it's interesting somehow.

Just a little more history.

Chris Russell, 28, designer of one of the world's more exotic amplifiers

If your Bryston amplifier of any age breaks down, you can dial 248-0251 and persuade a serviceman to pay a house call. Chances are, the man at your door will be Chris Russell, a lanky 28year-old with a student's demeanor and shoulder-length hair.”

Actually we all do but Chris has held up quite well.

Do you think that James had similar styling to Chris in the old days? :icon_twisted:

Yes - we all looked a bit different in the old days.  I have college fraternity pictures and so far no one has been able to pick me out without looking at the names
