Enjoying my system as we ready our home for the Thanksgiving get together. At some time later in the afternoon a few of us (men) will pipe it up to concert level (Mercury 1812 Overture) until the non music lovers (girls) start yelling turn it down!! :o  Ah.. family traditions

What kind of audio family traditions do you observe?

In an old issue of Audio Basics, Frank proved that playing the 1812 in your living room at concert levels would either explode your speakers or destroy your ears (or both). :)

Thanks all you long term and loyal AVA customers for your great support of us over the years.  I can't believe I have been doing this as a business since 1967.

Best regards,

Frank Van Alstine

The oldest Jensen's item I ever saw was a PAT-5 with some obvious cap changes on the boards and some added caps in the power supply. I suppose we could call it "pre-Perandial." :) I called and asked about it and was told to steer clear, so I bought a PAS chassis at the same shop and then a SuperPAS kit. (25 or so years later it still works.) For the same price as the PAS, they also had a pair of PAMs with the faceplate to tie them together. Frank didn't offer a kit for that, so I passed on it and have regretted not buying it since then. (It was going for $35 and looked brand new.)

Frank, do you still have any contact with customers who own original stock Dyna equipment wired by you or your cohorts in the late '60s? I know you once mentioned someone who had been a customer for somewhere near that amount of time. It would be interesting to hear from someone who used a stereo component for that long and resisted the urge to upgrade.

Thanks to all at AVA from one of the many who have over the years, and do currently, enjoy the music your equipment conveys to us.  :thumb:

Thanks Frank,

Too many projects, too little time. They will get done some days.

Neal, No audio traditions per se, but a couple things I can share:
A) I often would play Christmas/holiday music on my folks' stereo in the middle of the summer ( no AC in those days), telling my Mom it made it seem "cooler".

B) for years and years I would return to the family home for holidays and bring a large Hillshire Farms beefstick (sausage). This would appear in annual photos of me and my brothers, posed for posterity. I will try and upload accompanying shots form days-gone-by. We've got photo albums full of these...

Hope all the AVAers enjoy a great holiday season.

:o :o  What did you do before AVA?

Is there any known owner in audio that has been doing it longer?  Nobody comes to mind...

I have a FET-5 Mark 2.  But I had Frank upgrade it about 30 years ago so it's not "original".  Not sure of the exact manufacture date, but probably around 69-70.

IIRC Frank worked for the power company in MN.

Was that in the cryo unit or the Lamarckian Phase Latency Cancellation unit?
