Vizio LCDs any good?
« on: 20 Nov 2010, 05:09 pm »
Costco's got a couple of models on sale right now.  Are these TVs any good?  I don't demand my video stuff be as crisp and resolving as my audio stuff but I do want reliability and compatibility with Wii.  I've found some flat panel TVs to have an unacceptable delay when playing wii.  Just want to make sure these don't.  I also don't have cable so a good digital tuner is a must.  I know, I know.  I'm living in the dark ages!

Thanks for the opinions!

I've had a Vizio for two and a half years, and it's been reliable. I don't know anything about its wii compatibility however.

Costco has a great warranty on top of the manufacturers. If you use your Amex card you get an added year on top of the standard warranty. I tend to stay away from visio only because most of them are butt ugly. A lot of the installs I do the client is way more concerned about how a tv looks than how good the refresh rate or contrast is.  that said. If the tv looks acceptable and performs well I say go for it!

I love my 52" Vizio lcd-led model, but I don't see it offered on the Costco website.  It is superior in every way to the 50" Sony it replaced (which died at the ripe old age of 4).

I've never had a problem with any of their TVs.  Probably 5-6 years back I bought a 32 inch (720p) LCD for the kitchen and a 42 inch LCD for the bedroom.  Last February, I picked up the 55 inch LED for the bedroom and moved the 42 inch to the kitchen and the 32 inch to a spare bedroom.  Probably 80+% of the time, the bedroom TV is on sleep timer at night.  So it gets used.  The kitchen TV gets used for watching nightly news.

All of the LCD screens are made by either Samsung or LG, I can't swear to it, but I believe Vizio's are Samsung screens.  The difference once the various grades of panels each manf. makes are evened out (i.e. the Sony XBR uses a better grade of Samsung display than the EX series), the difference is the engines (chips), sync technology, etc.  The Visio line saves money by using less expensive engines and offering less features.  Which can make them a excellent buy for those wanting basic television and movies.  If you are a heavy duty gamer you may want to spend more on a better engine, thus your question about delays etc. may indicate you want a more up market set.

I'M OFF TO COSTCO!!!!!!!!!

Letitroll:  Thanks for the heads up about the gaming.  I'm going to give the TV a try.  If it doesn't cut it I can take it back but I don't think I'm THAT heavy a gamer.  Will let you know.
