You say you've been through this before Dave? I know nothing of MRSA, what causes it (hereditary?) or if there's any preventitive measures that can be done. Is early detection benefitial (like breast cancer)? Could you enlighten me Dave?
Glad to hear that the cast is off and hopefully the antibiotics will work for you so you can finally move forward for the benefit of us.
And yourself of course.
Cheers,
Robin
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a bad sucker. Everyone has staph growing on their skin, just like they have strep growing there. Most staph infections are the icky, got an oozing pimple kind of infection and our bodies just snuff them out. Problem is when the body doesn't fight it off. MRSA is the Frankenstein version of common staph and is resistant to a lot of common antibiotics. What is scary is that there are a lot of people out there in the general population that are carriers. They don't get sick from it, they infect others.
MRSA can be spread by shaking hands, sneezes, kissing...the normal ways anything is spread. I have no idea how I contracted it back in '08. It started out as a tiny boil on one of the fingers on my right hand. That time it manifested itself as folliculitis - infected hair follicles. I ended up with it in my nose, my right ear, both hands. It was really nasty looking and extremely painful. That is one of the symptoms. Just a hard look would make me wince

Once a person has had it, they have a predisposition to getting it again. I try to be careful, but I work with power tools and wood... not a great combination.
Upside is that my doctor is a budding audiophool. I have him in my sights...

Heh, heh.
