I typically serve Burgundian Pinot Noir and drier Spätlese, German Riesling.  Old world Pinot Noir just has more complexity than the new world counterparts and I think goes better with various Thanksgiving treats.  Same goes for Spätlese:  much more complex than Chardonnay or Pinot Gris but can get too sweet unless your get really spicy with your turkey and side dishes. Gewürztraminer would also be good if the food gets spicier.

Typically, no wine or beer or alcohol, since we have turkey at lunch.  Maybe eggnog, if there's any made.

Vodka martini (Grey Goose) very dry, stirred, one olive before and a nice Oregon Pinot with.

I've had whatever my favorite at the time Pinot Noir is for T-day, will have to look for a nice, old world one for this year.

I have usually favored a Pinot Noir, or a good quality Grand Cru Beaujolais.  This year I might choose however an 07 St. Francis old vines Zin.  It is drinking perfectly right now.  3 yrs. old is often when Zins peak.  However, if the company were really exceptional and knowledgeable a good French Burgandy can not be beat.  I, too, also like Gewurz with the turkey dinner.

I had posted this on another thread as a buy recommendation last year.  I thought it was a deal at under $30 for a Premier Cru Pommard, a Côte de Beaune red.  The price tanked becuse it was a bad year with hail all all but some managed to salvage good wines out of it.  I was hoping de Courcel did.  If anybody could, de Courcel would be one as they know their Pommard -- they have only been doing this for 400 years.  I may have been right as it's now selling at $70+ if you can find it.  :o  I think I will open one and let it air out to see if the tannins have mellowed.   From everything I read I should wait but I can't resist.

Russian Standard Vodka worth a try as well - in my area approx 1/2 the price of Grey Goose, which for me certainly helps improve the imbibing
