I could use some advice.  I have some VR5 Anniversaries with the WBT topline binding posts.  For some reason, the spades attached to the bottom keep coming loose--on the order of once every few weeks.  One of these days, I could be unlucky and short out the amplifier.  Does anybody have any advice about how to properly tighten them so that the speaker wires don't continue coming loose from the speakers?

Hi Mike,
Solid spades between two flat surfaces works if you use a high torque. As this is not possible here (I have MK3s with similar posts), I suggest a elastic washer. Why not something made of plastic, you will still have a good connection on the speaker side of the post.

Or skip the spades and use bare wire!

Very soon someone will make a post telling me how excellent spades are frome a sonic point of view :D

Hi Mike,

I know what you mean.
What I do is this.

Put the spade in the direction at 3.00 oclock.
Turn the WBT as tight as you can.
Now Turn the WBT and the spade at the same time an other quarter so the spade is in the right position. Than it will stay there.

Good luck.

..specifically either BFA bananas (my preference) or locking bananas...

Hey Guys,

Ok, (locking) bananas is a solution but Mike's question was how to tight his spades. Bananas will increase the cost of the solution.

Thanks for the advice.  I have some nice (at acoustic zen shotgun biwires) so I really don't want to reterminate or change speaker wires.

So there are two nuts, an inner nut that tightens the spade to the connector, and an outer nut that I though was for locking.  For whatever reason, the locking nut doesn't seem to lock me in  :?

It's the other way around Mike. The inner ring is for clamping in on bananas. The outer ring is for using spades or bare wire.

Loosen the Inner Ring and Outer Ring, insert spade, tighten outer ring like Ceedee said then do that quarter turn to get as firm as you can. The Inner ring you just tighten enough so it won't rattle.

Hope this helps.
