Bebop86, it's a real turd...you should sell it to me cheap

Actually those big Denon's are worth a lot of money, so many feel they are pretty good.  I think there would be some difference between that and the Nott, but how much would really depend on the cart/arm combo's about as much as anything.

I would use it to get me back into vinyl if I were you.  I used a much more modest vintage Sansui to get back into it.

Once you get a decent phono pre and decent IC's you will see the potential of vinyl over CD.

Those LP's you have as long as they are not all scratched up or warped should be just fine.  Just make sure they are clean.

Good luck and let us know how you are making out.

Was going to start a new thread, but on search, this one seemed like it was asking a similar question.

Does anyone have any resources on the web, or personal comments on vintage TT combinations vs. what's current out there?  eBay seems to have quite a number of vintage table combinations that get bid up rather high, so I have to assume there's some old combinations that are rather sought after for sound, and some simply for nostalgia.

I have no idea how restored vintage setups compare to current products, but am curious.  Trying to get rid of the enormous amount of extra equipment I have, for space, for cash, and most likely consolidating into a single downsized system that also combines TV viewing into the mix on the cheap.

I know living with this compromise will probably drive me nuts, so I'm tempted to put together a small, cheap, personal setup to tide me over..  A cheap TT would be in the mix, and with the amount of people that give away old vinyl and available on the cheap at sales and would not, this would probably satisfy me in being able to keep acquiring music while staying within the budget I'm trying to force as we navigate the hell that is saving money and attempting to buy a home in northern NJ..

So when I say cheap, I'm thinking sub MMF5 prices -- maybe a couple hundreds bucks maximum, and just pairing with a vintage receiver and some smaller more sensitive speakers..

We have excellent resources like fmtunerinfo for tuners new and old, but curious if anyone has a shortlist of brands and models to look toward or steer clear from regarding vintage TTs...

Please keep in mind that I have little knowledge of product comparisons in the analog world, new OR old, so it would be a cheap purchase based on suggestion alone, and not something that would further be upgraded down the road, unless it was on the cheap...

Suggestions?

There's quite an interest in Lenco turntables (those with an idler wheel) right now. It was started earlier this year, on what's now a long running thread, on audiogon. You can pick up an old Lenco turntable relatively inexpensively, build a better plinth for it, and have a great turntable. Here are some links for you to check out:

It seems several people have done this and are enjoying excellent sound that's up there with their "reference" rigs.

I hope someone who has or who has owned the Denon turntable can respond to bebop's question. I'm interested in getting a direct drive table. The new Denon DP500M looks interesting. I don't know how good they are.
