Selling a Superphon SP-100 that Stan Warren recently upgraded. It was a great sounding preamp and Stan brought it up to todays standards, upgrading many of the components. It is a true buffered line stage.
About the SP-100:
The jacks are custom made, gold-over-brass. The volume and balance controls are custom made Bourns conductive plastic. The unit is direct coupled, so there aren't any caps in the signal path. It is a true diamond buffer. The input impedance is high and the output impedance is low. The bandwidth is very large and the distortion remains constant with frequency over the audio band.
Stans Upgrades:
Fet diodes - current regulators in place of resistors in the input, bigger main supply caps, discrete shunt regulators replaced the Zener diodes, bigger rectifiers and a few resistor and grounding changes. A larger power supply (toroidal transformer) was also added along with an IEC connector. The unit was also Cyro-Frozen. Stan felt that the sound was remarkable and easily the best version of the SP100 he has ever heard. Why am I selling this? I recently tested 2 different tubed preamps with my system, and I want to go with a tubed preamp.
