What kind of enclosure is my sub?
« on: 4 Nov 2010, 01:45 pm »
Hi,
Long time ago i bought a chinese  made subwoofer for around 65 dollars and is been almost 10 years now and is still working pretty good for what is worth. My question is, im not sure what type of enclosue it is. I know the types of enclusure for subs such as ported, sealed, bandpass, isobaric. My sub is actually non of these. Basically the driver is installed inside the cabinet, similar to a bandpass, but instead of having a sealed chamber, it is actually a ported chamber, so basically the cabinet has two chamber both ported. Is this actually another form of bandpass that i might have been confused? thanks

To quote Sherlock Holmes, "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth" (which is valid logically, but misapplied by Holmes in the case referred to in the book).  Since this is not a sealed, ported, passive radiator or transmission line system, it must be a variation on a bandpass.  The variation is a sixth order bandpass.

Thanks for the info. Is actually a bandpass. According to the discription, it is suppose to be on the lower end in terms of quality but i  Im suprised, i think i found a great placement for this sub to integrate with my 2ch, it actually sounds pretty accurate, tight and not boomy for what it is.
