Two new speaker projects. Updated with pics.
« on: 3 Nov 2010, 01:56 am »
I have two new speaker projects under way this winter.  I just finished a pair of N2X's using the PE gloss black cabinets, these will go in my bedroom, they sound fantastic.

The next is a pair of Super V's.  I was able to listen to them again at Danny's house last weekend and they really are a fantastic speaker at a bargain price.

N2X's

What did you replace them with?  I have a pair in a small room that are pretty darned good.  I am still trying to get my big LS9s (in a much more difficult room) to image and sound stage as well as the little Neo2Xs.

Didn't replace them, just needed funds.  The N2X are the speaker that got me hooked on upgrading so much last year...before them, the differences between speakers I'd heard (of those I could afford) were quite minimal except in voicing.  The N2X simply blew away anything I'd heard under $2,000.  I now have OB7s and Gedlee Abbeys, of course  :thumb:

The N2X is reaally close to the OB7 sound and with those PE cabinets can be built for next to nothing.  Or using the DIYspeaker cabinet guy (quite inexpensive).

I would love to get Danny to build me out an ultimate 2-way with a RAAL tweeter as soon as funds allow and he's up for it.

Man I am waiting for my N3s to get to Montreal and they are taking forever .  Reading this type of stuff has me pumped...

My comments in this one should have been more tactful and have been removed.

NX2 built into PE .5 cubic feet curved side cabinet........Houston we have a problem.  I built these for my bedroom so I would rather the grills were on the speaker 90% of the time.  The problem is the 6.5" woofer used in this speaker is just as wide as the grill so the grill won't lay flat on the face of the cabinet.  The grill is held on with magnets so they won't work if the grill can't make contact with the face of the cabinet.  Easy fix, remove magnets from grills, phillips head screw through the middle of a donut shaped magnet.  Bought 3/8" diameter dowel rod drilled the center attached a magnet to the end and then measure 1/2" down the rod and cut it off and repeat for all 8 magnets.  Glue the new standoffs to the grill and the problem is solved.  This allows the grill to fasten using the magnets with the dowel rod as standoffs.
