That is a beautiful turntable.  I have the before picture on a shelf in my garage.

Did the stone make a big difference?  Visually it is stunning.

Wow,

beautiful job - well done - if it sounds even close to what it looks like it should be fabulous....

(I do like the idea of replinthing these JVC's.....)

I kind of wish that I could get a herbies in full black as I like the black/silver/walnut theme i now have.

Call Steve at Herbie's...you never know what he has cooking or can do.  He's a real decent chap to talk to (just allot 15 minutes as he isn't normally a rushed type).  A good thing, that  :)

I read that Harry of VPI started out in the TT biz (as a machinest) re-plinthing JVC DD tables long ago.  Lotsa' promise with these JVC's and alot of the issue is the std cheapie plinths.

Way to go, dawg  :thumb:

Well I finally finished my restoration . I milled some solid walnut and wrapped a 4 layer plywood base with it, and then added a 3/4 stone top plate. It weighs in at over 50lbs. I fixed the dreaded tonearm weight sag with some surgery and an o-ring. I will search for a before pic and upload some more to my gallery.

How does she sound? Pretty sweet so far. I need a new mat. I am using an old felt mat right now and am feeling that this is not the best mat for this table. Any suggestions?

I am also still using the stock feet, and was planning on switching to some tip toes or maybe something else. I literally just finished the plinth so need a little breathing time.

Also, the turntable s not grounded to anything right now. I am gong to have to look into grounding the table.

That's SUPER NICE!!! You did a wonderful job. What kind of stone did you use?

I'd source a Delrin mat to use without a top mat. It won't provide much damping for the platter, but offers the potential for highest resolution IMO.

The stone was "granite absolut black" but in reality it is probably quartz/gabro. Granite is pretty much just what countertop people call anything that comes out of the ground. I am not a geologist but am positive that it is not granite. I am interested in learning about the delrin platter, where  can I find info on that?

have the same table/arm, if you have a hum even w/grnd. at the end of RCA leads, try grounding tonearm to mtr./platter,currently use stanton881MKII with replacement Shibata stylis from JICO and a M.A. with nude line cont.  Hope this helps, P.S. looks great!
