So how is this one CB ?  Miroslav seemed to get a little too free form for my taste in general after leaving Weather Report. Great bassist, just less accessible for me in his later work in general.  8)

Gonna have to pick up that Collin Wolcott release.  :thumb:

You might like the Miroslav album.  Kirkland gives it a McCoy Tyner feel to it. It's free form on the laid-back side with some gorgeous bass cello, not to mention Surman's fine saxophone work.

You will love the Cloud Dance album for sure.  :thumb:

Sometimes two saxophonists just like playing together.  Gerry Mulligan did quite a few albums with other sax players:

Of course, but I specifically mentioned "Drummer" assembled and led groups. Which has nothing to do with two saxophonists "liking to play together". It's a realization of a particular aesthetic/vision first.

John Coltrane
The Coltrane Sound

I don't think I've ever heard an LP with a larger soundstage than this LP.  Absolutely envelopes you.

Miles Davis "Stockholm 1960", 4-disc live recording over two separate dates with two different sax players.
March 22 tracks 1-7 with John Coltrane, who left the band shortly thereafter; and October 13 tracks 8-23 with Sonny Stitt in JC's place.
Track 4 of disc 1 JC gives an interview.

Very nice sound and great music. Interesting to hear how much more Miles participates (he has to) with JC gone. Sonny just not as prolific as JC I guess. But then, who is?

Lou Donaldson, "LD + 3" (1959), the "3" being the band "The Three Sounds", which provides a top-notch rhythm section, including the always terrific Gene Harris on piano.
OMG this is a superb disc! The music, the headliner, the rhythm section, the recording (XRCD24) ... an all-around winner!  :thumb:

I must say, I love all of my XRCD24 discs. Superb sonics, wonderful photos and notes, beautifully packaged like a fine hardcover book.
I am glad I treated myself to this version of this release.

Lou Donaldson, "Here 'Tis" (1961), with Grant Green's debut on Blue Note. Nice soul-jazz effort (no gators, no boogaloo, just soul) with Baby Face Willette providing the supportive structure via some nice organ work.
