Jimmy Smith ~ Christmas '64

Yer a sneaky devil. Some people never cotton to jazz
. I think you have to like blues first. Some people never cotton to blues
. Not so unusual really. Ya probably have to have had some sad occurrence in yer life or been born black. Heck, I even like tragic opera. Got that from my mom's best friend when I was growing up. Her eyes would well up and she'd clutch her breast during grand climaxes. On popular radio at the time it was Elvis, The Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis and stuff like that. The girls thought I was crazy listening to black R&B stations. My best friend's older sister had some Cal Tjader, June Christy, and Kenton in her collection and I added some of her albums to mine as I got older. Still got some. Played June Christy's "Something Cool" for a visitor a couple weeks ago. Plus, I worked Saturday's in my local record store where I got educated about music AND stereo by the lead salesman. But, it was my first roommate in the USAF that got my act together. He was a black cat from Cleveland and had his proverbial shit together like nobody before or since in my experience and he had a stereo! His name was LC Banks. I don't suppose anybody reading this knows of him but it would be
sooooo special to me if someone did. Onward and upward, good friends of mine.
