FS: Salk SongTowers in Houston (Reduced Again!!!)
« on: 22 Oct 2010, 09:41 pm »
My friend Raj is buying my Salk HT1's so he is selling his Salk SongTowers.  They are in veneered in Honey Locust.  He doesn't have the boxes so this is for local pickup in Houston, Texas (Sagemont area).  PM me to see them.  These were the first pair of SongTowers made.  They are $1900 new so he wants $1250.

Bump.

Getting my vote for the best sound per dollar system had to be the Audio by Van Alstine room. Salk Signature Song Tower QWT loudspeakers ($1795/pair) were powered by the Van Alstine Ultravalve tube amp ($1695). ......... I didn’t know the source material playing when I entered but it had a wonderful full and rich female vocal with a punchy bass underpinning. You really had to wonder if anyone needed to spend more money than this for musical enjoyment.

The current price of the SongTowers is $1899.

In my estimation, the Salk Sound SongTower and Ultravalve combo represent the most musical audio dollars you’re ever likely to spend during a lifetime of consumption.

You're obviously not familiar with the resale value of Salk speakers.  If you research Salk transactions you'll see that individuals purchasing the speakers used pay a higher $ than non-ID used speakers, in relation to retail price.  The speakers are custom built.

I have a hair in me when people question a sale.  I had a pair of Revel speakers for sale on Agon...A dude posted on AVS Forum that he saw my Agon listing, $2200 for the speakers.  He said KShep thought you'd like to know that the going price for your Revel's is about $1700.  I wanted to hurt the guy.

The good news is I went on to sell said speakers for an amount considerably above $1700.

Asking price seems fair to me as well being that the speakers are custom made and can only be obtained either via Jim himself at full price or via a previous owner as in this case.  When you factor in that you might have to wait a few weeks to get a brand new set, this certainly doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.

To me it doesn't matter if you paid $1,600 for them originally compared to what they go for now.  It's supply and demand and if the demand is not there then the seller can lower his asking price.  Nothing out there says that you can only get x percentage of what you paid for an item new when you sell it on the used market.

I'm sure like most Salk speakers on the used market, they will sell relatively quickly.

Good luck on the sale!

Yeah, I once bought a pair of Polk speakers for $129. They generally look something like these speakers, except for the speaker things, and the color. But they are probably pretty similar. So, these should be sold for somewhere between $63.04 and $67.42...... :D

I don't know why people feel the need to comment on the asking price. The market will let the seller know what is a fair price. I suspect it is because they overpaid for something recently, and now think that it is their public duty to act on the behalf of buyers everywhere.....ok, rant over.

If I had $1600 to spend on speakers, I'd like to have these. Pretty!

These are the first pair of SongTowers ever made.  These are the one’s Jim pictures on his website.  They have a special Honey Locust veneer that is now only available for much more as a special order(if you can find a source of the veneer).  The current base price of the SongTowers is $1899.

I'm thinkin guys using bookshelf speakers or older speakers will scoop these up PDQ.  I would if they audition as well as I think they can.  Perfect for my room, probably.  Don't know why more designers don't offset their tweeters.  A class act design.

Price reduced to $1350.  This is $550 off and you also save shipping with local pickup.  It also is a free upgrade to standard finish.

A newer picture.  Sorry that the picture is so dark.

Last chance to hear/buy the SongTowers before they are used for surround duty to HT1 mains.   They are reduced in price too!  $1250!!!!   When they are relegated to surround duty they will be harder to audition.

People of Houston, you should be ashamed. Songtowers for $1,250. Do you not recognize a great deal when you see one.

Maybe you should ask Jim what it would cost to purchase a set of boxes for shipping and up the price accordingly since a local sale is not happening.
