SOLD: Dodd battery pre in walnut and chrome top
« on: 15 Oct 2010, 02:35 pm »
Hi all,
I have a one owner 9/10 Dodd Battery Preamp in walnut up for grabs. Has the original chrome top (not black), OBM. All stock with remote, and batteries that run about 16 hrs. These units have 4 inputs plus an HT bypass that doesn't require power to use, so total of 5 inputs counting the passthrough. Two outputs, matching walnut remote.

$1650 including shipping, paypal extra.
This pre is fast, dynamic, smooth, detailed, precise, and throws an amazing soundstage. Excellent full frequency extension, bass is phenomenal. Responds well to tube rolling. Music emerges from a dark black background, really nice. Did I mention it is QUIET?
I also have sets of NOS Amperex 7308s, CV2493, Mullard 6922s that go very well with this pre, let me know if you are interested and we can work out a deal.

Hi, looked at Gary's site and couldn't find specs; do you know the input/output impedance and the gain of these?

Thanks,

Randy

Hi Randy,
I found this in 6moons' review:
Here  are the basics according to Walter Liederman (of Underwood HiFi),  distributor: "Continuous battery operation; input impedance 100K ohms  (quieter and more universal); output impedance < 200 ohms; gain 16dB;  4 RCA inputs, 2 RCA outputs; home theater bypass; high quality Cardas  sockets (Vampire copper on the CD input and one output); Vampire  continuous cast copper internal wiring; very simple circuit design with  only one capacitor in the signal path; Sonicaps bypassed with Platinum  Sonicaps for the output section; uses 2 x 6DJ8 tubes or any variant of  this tube (6922); matching remote with volume control via motorized Alps  Black Beauty; battery life expectancy 12-14 months; cost of battery  replacement $19.95 x 4 direct from Dodd."
I used the Dodd with a 10K input impedance amp, which is very low, and I never experienced any impedance matching problems.

I have several nice bits in my system, but my Dodd Pre Amp is the anchor of my system.  It is also one of those pieces that that when the wife heard it, her comment was not about the $ but how much clearer everything was.  These are great preamps and this is a great deal for someone.

Gary and Danny make for a nice combination.  So the Dodd SWEETENS the Neo 2X's?  Have you heard them with a servo sub?

Your price on this is too low.  It's a really good bargain.  There is a guy selling one on Audiogon for $2200.
