It's a great article but a tip of the true ice burg of what this thing can do.. It's a fully programmable dsp to run a fully active loudspeaker and tune your loudspeaker to your room..

Hi Randy, looking forward to seeing how you go with it and the no-baffles.

Vote over here for a dedicated Signal Processing circle, hopefully there will be lots of miniDSP talk as well as others: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=86961.0 ;)

Bump.....

I'm thinking about getting one of these. The 8X8 to be more specific.
Since Randy has fallen off the face of the earth, I was wondering if anybody else in St. Louis has one.
Thoughts, ideas, opinions, bla...???  :thumb:

I was on the fence to get one for a while & go active.  Through talking with Randy & seeing the minidsp in action its easy to recommend it for a speaker builder.

To be able to sit in your listening chair with a laptop & change anything by small increments is priceless.  Randy once made a comment akin to the fact that using the mini dsp trained his brain to hear 1db changes.

Thanks Matt.
I'm not looking at one from a "speaker builders" perspective.....cause we all know I like to build them, but I'm not reinventing the wheel, or even designing passive crossover networks. So I don't need one to "use", just to use, if you see the difference....

For my use, with the audio thing and the home theater deal, it's nice to have the different modes saved and able to load with a few clicks. As active as my system is, that functionality is an absolute must.

The back story to all this, is I've groan (pun intended) tired of the glitchy Logitech user interface. I love my Bolder modded SB3, as the sound quality is awesome. But I just can't do the software crap anymore.

This morning I ordered a 10" Samsung Galaxy tablet. Tonight I'll order the 8x8 MiniDSP, and then I'll work on getting the CPU to go in the rack with the rest of the electronics.

Also, today I ordered a 7" Pioneer DVD head unit for my YukonXL. The master plan here is to use the Tablet to bounce between the truck and home systems. Harddrives and touchscreens..... whoo-ray....!!!!  :thumb:
I've gotten authorization from my Director of Financial Affairs to spend the couple thousand dollars I'm looking at to get this all going.

After I get it all going, I'll most likely sell off the DCX2496, and my beloved SB3, and maybe even the Duet.

But in the mean time, I was wanting to chat with any of you fellas about the MiniDSP and if at all possible, come over to your house and push some buttons.

My biggest fear is that I lose the wonderful sound quality I have. I've been so happy with my system in that regard, I'm very afraid I'm going to crap all over my little personal corner of Utopia.  :(

Somebody want to buy my MiniDSP?  The thing sounds like hammered sh*t.  If I was writing a review it would be short and to the point, top to bottom everything got worse.

I'm not even joking, the MiniDSP is the worst sounding piece of audio gear I've ever had in my system.

 :o  Really.
Can I borrow it?
In Randy's system it sounded great. I have no doubt any piece of equipment can make or break the rest of the system, but I'd hate to spend $400 on the 8x8 and have a nice fresh plate of hammered shit.

Mine is the 2x4, and yes you can borrow it anytime ... prefereably before I paint a bullseye on it and practice my hip-fire trick shots.

Randy's system was just awesome, esp at the end when his modd'd source showed up.  pretty sure, sq wise, his was the exception & not the norm.

Even after all that veneering you forgot Ryan was just 4 houses & 3 fields from you.

BTW, "hammered shit" is a technical term.

Can I join in on the fun?

Haha, thought so.  Now I don't feel bad about using it to describe other manufacturers speakers.
