Thought someone might be interested in this, since LotR is doing so well. Coincidence? Not sure....
A little background first.
I'm a pretty big L.A. Kings fan. Have four kids that play,(you think audio systems are expensive!), and love hockey in general. Was reading the rantings of some fans complaining about the fact that Phillip Anschutz never spends any money on the Kings, and instead are wasting money on this: Walden(owned by AEG) has obtained the rights to make a live action movie of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Well one of my sons had a skating camp tonight and I happened to walk into the rink at the same time as John Landau (of Titanic fame, not sure if he was producer or director.) as our kids are the same age. I mentioned it to him, and he said that they have been trying to get the rights for some time and that they have a big budget lined up to make the movie. He said the people who did "holes" are going to be doing the film.

I wouldn't take any of this info to the bank with ya, but hopefully someone out there will find this intriguing!

He'd be the producer. Cameron was the director.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the story. What's it about?

Loosely based Christian themes.  The original book, 'The lion, the witch and the wardrobe', was set in England country side mansion about a girl that wanders into a fantasy land.  She comes back and her 2 brothers and sisters don't believe her.  That is until they are 'forced' in the land of Narnia themselves.  The story evolves from there, with talking beavers and fauns and the like.  When this book did well, C.S. Lewis wrote 'The Magicians Nephew' that was the precurser of the original.  The next 6 book continue on with their adventures as well as some other children.  I read about the movies 2 days ago, it is official.
Fun read for adults, just as good as Harry Potter, of course I read these when I was 7.  I am now reading them to my 5 yr old daughter.

I think the chronicles are usually considered classics. In the same zip code as LotR but written more to children. I'm just wondering if the efforts to purchase the rights now so they can ride the coat-tails of the Rings trilogy. I'm not sure if they acquired the rights to the whole series. I should see Landau again tonight I'll try to remember to ask him.

I brought this up because as many of you LotR fans know, C.S.Lewis and Tolkien were colleagues at Cambridge of Oxford, can't remember which. Their work is usually spoken of in the same conversations. It's a testament to their excellence, that both author's work is still held in such high regard.

It's been a couple decades since I read it, but I hope there's an opportunity in that story to make the audience think a character is dead when they're really not.  How big is this wardrobe anyway?  Could a person hang by one edge of it and risk falling to their death?  Golly, I hope so.  That makes for exciting cinema.

Seeing how this english police box is not ruled the laws of both space and time.  There is no telling what an english wardrobe is all about
