LF is 310mm from PMC website.  Converting that gives us 12.204 inches.

Just out of interest and costs is their a great difference running these speakers with a 14bsst2. As i am informed that they are the the same as 7bsst2 in one box. if this is correct think of the amount of electricity you save when left on stanby and also the initial cost

The 14B is not exactly two 7B's in the same chassis.  The 7's have twice the power supply capacitance as the 14B explaining Steve's earlier observation that they draw 430 W/hr as opposed to the 14B's 215 W/hr draw.  James has confirmed this several times on various threads over the past year or so.

So, the 7B is the better deal?

It is the real deal.  However, checking out Viper's setup at AVFroums, why not go with 2 x 28B damit!  :)

He needs a preamp that has an HT Bypass so he can still use his HT Processor for the movies.  Hmmm...just like my setup.  The best of both worlds.   :thumb:

I'm not sure if these are the official U.S. retail prices, but Audio Advisor lists the 7BSST2 at $4595 ($9190 for a pair) versus the 14BSST2 at $8695.  That would be  a difference of $495, only a 5.7% premium.

With the 7BSST2 having an advantage in twice the power supply storage capacitance and the ability to have shorter speaker cables, they would certainly have the technical advantage for not much more money.  On the other side of the coin, it would depend if you can acommodate the extra space of a second amplifier and whether you cared about consuming twice the power at idle.

Audio nirvana requires some tough decisions!

Wow, the prices have gone up again? Hell, I got my 4BSST for $2400. However, that was almost 4 years ago now.

Yeah, definitely tough decisions...you have to decide whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages regarding the 7B.

Sometimes the decision depends on the type of speakers you have. ;)

I have 4 Ohm flat impedance 105dB speakers.  Just trying to decide between 2 X 7BSST2 or 2 X 28BSST2.   ;)

Seriously, unfortunately I don't see myself being forced to make these kinds of decisions anytime soon!

For me the decision is easy.  I buy only with what I can afford.  Period.

Hmm...impedance is on the lower side, but efficiency is high...I'd say a 7B would fit the bill just fine.

I was only kidding.  I was trying to make a joke about overkill.  105dB speakers sucking 900W - ?* per channel at 4 Ohms.   Really?

*not sure why the 28BSST2 4 Ohm power is not specified?

People around here takes their kilowatts very seriously!

I was wondering if you were kidding with 105 db sensitivity.  The 28B measures in at over 1800 wpc into 4 ohms accorrding to John Atkinson of Stereophile.  If John measures it you can take it to the bank.  At 105 db sensitivity you could blow up your house with the 28's
