Sold: Modwright LS36.5 Tube Preamp
« on: 4 Oct 2010, 01:50 pm »
This preamp does not need much of an introduction on this forum.
This is one killer preamp. Highly reviewed and just musical. Competes easily with highly respected tube preamps, and is a no brainer at this price point

see full review at six moons,
"In the end, that's really the ticket: how to distill what's good about tubes while ditching what's not. The SWL 9.0 modelled itself closely on high-resolution transistor sound, i.e. neutral down the middle. The LS-36.5 stays the course but digs deep into the space drawer of dimensionality and layering where tubes hold the aces. It's really amazing how far Dan Wright has come in a short time as a manufacturer. At its price, the LS-36.5 is a very strong statement to make both its designer and future owners proud. Time for Dan to try his hands at a matching amp? He's surely got the chops, our modman. Brava! as they shout at the Italian Opera..." -- Srajan Ebaen

see full review at positive feedback
"ModWright's LS36.5 Linestage is a true reference component, the first linestage deserving of the moniker at this price point in my opinion. It receives my nomination for the best of the best under $5000! With the hallmarks of reference level detail, harmonious musical nuance, a smooth and involving presentation, and dynamic splendor, the 36.5 will more than give you solid Mercedes performance for a Buick price tag. Its signal to noise ratio is world class as is its fit and finish. Its use of tubes and solid-state components is brilliantly conceived. ModWright has done it again. Only this time, they built the LS36.5 from the ground up and gave it outstanding performance as well as super high value. Well done ModWright!" -- Robert H. Levi

Got this unit brand new in Feb 2010. 9/10 condition
This is the latest configuration of the preamp with the push button faceplate, which is much nicer looking than the older model, and has all the latest sonic updates. Features rca and balanced inputs and outputs. Comes with original box, remote, manual etc and factory tubes which have about 10 hours on them.
Only selling because I recently purchased the two box LS36.5 DM  8)

$OLD shipped and paypaled to US *audiocircle price*. USPS money order as well.

I have feedback on Agon with the same name as well as head-fi, head-case
PM me if interested.

Hi Pete,

You're not fooling anybody.  :green:

You think if you keep dangling this jewel in front of me long enough, my resistance will wither.

And you might be right!  :thumb:

My resistance is starting to wither too.  I signed up for the tour of the new LS100 as I'm ready to consider a new preamp.  Pete, is your system in the gallery (have not looked) and if not, what were you using it with.  Thanks

No, not in the gallery :)  I have some pics on head-case.org. I should get off my lazy butt and take some nice pics and post them.

I have a highly modded Technics SL-1210, with custom power supply, Mike New bearing and high mass platter, and SME V tonearm. Zyx Airy 3x cart
Digital: Denon 3930Ci with SACDmods output stage and clock.
Modwright SWP 9.0SE phono
LS 36.5 DM
KWA 150
Paradigm Ref 100 v.4 speakers

Just buy it!!  You won't be sorry :)

Yes you should get off your lazy butt :green:  I went to head-case.org and I'd guess you have to register.  I just shipped off my Sony 2000ES CD/SACD changer today to someone on Audio Circle and shot a couple of pics and posted them in my gallery which makes it easy to embed in your post.  Pictures help with the resistance issue :icon_twisted:  I just broke down about an hour ago and bought a Bryston 3BST for the (left and right channel for the) bedroom system (need a shallow amp to fit behind the center channel as the Adcom 555 I am using now barely fits - pic below). I've been contemplating getting one for about a year and borrowed an AMC amp that a friend had laying around last week and it would not fit at all.  Those pictures definitely sealed the deal as I just borrowed the other amp and it was on my mind.  So post some pics!!!!

You can also link the image here.  Below the bold symbol is the image icon.  You hit that and link it to your gallery.  That's what I did with my bedroom system pic above.

Thanks! The pics on head case are older and did not show my latest configuration. So I put the latest here in the gallery.

A question.  We have discussions on other boards on how difficult it is to find a local dealer to audition things.  Can you describe what equipment you have and what the differences are that you notice between the 36.5 and the 36.5DM in the system.  I went to your Gallery where you have 'The Rig' but no equipment list.  I'm sure there are others like me who are interested but perhaps torn between different things (like the 36.5 and the 36.5DM) and debating what to do.  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks

Nice avatar.

I listed my equipment earlier in this thread.
The DM to me is slightly more 3d and liquid than the single box version.
Of course it is hard to do an A/B, and this was my initial impression many months ago. YMMV.
