VR-9s in their new home
« on: 30 Sep 2010, 01:10 pm »
You guys have all seen my VR-9s I think. They are the ones in the VSA website's contact page. There you'll see them all squished together. Amazing how I still managed to get excellent sound in such a long narrow room. Last week however, they got to go home to the place built just for them  :thumb:

It's been a long road and I ain't done yet. There's some fabric that is yet to arrive, no the garbage bags on the walls are not design statements , the analog rig will move in after the fabric. The rugs will be coming in soon after.

Even now however, the performance is knocking me head over heels. Ahhhh. This is what its ABOUT!!!

God Bless you Albert, you &&%$#!!! genius!

and from behind, (showing off the signed pair  :thumb:)

Thanks for looking!

Wow!

Can you give some details on the room/construction/room treatment. Looks like some sweet diffusion on the rear wall!

Anand.

Hello Jack,

Wow, this look great.
Looks like the chair is a sweetspot for long time listening.

The room even can handle the VR 11 8)

Good luck,

Cor

Hi Annand,

Up front those pillar things and the wave cloud are made of a material called eCalme in Japan aka Almute in the US. They are 3mm sheets of compressed aluminum shaving and have about the equivalent absorption coefficient as 4 inches of fiber fill. Air space behind them increases or decreases the base AC. The pillars internal volume was computed by the engineers in Japan to have about the same bass trapping as an ASC super trap. The wave is a direct knock off of the eCalme waves used in Sony Studios in Tokyo. What look like flat sheets of wood up front are actually slatted. Between the slats are labyrinth chambers and behind them 4 inches of rock wool. These are engineered in Germany but made in China. I got them from a company called MacroTech here in Manila. Midway you'll see some resonators, on the ceiling another tuned midband absorber/diffusor. Out back, ceiling and walls more resonators tuned for bass frequencies. The rears are Schroeder diffusors.

Thankfully, being in the Philippines it does not cost a whole lot to build these things and my acoustician is one of, if not the best in South East Asia. He's kind of hard to get a hold of because he lectures all over. He's a real buddy though so.......... :thumb:

Posting these pictures is akin to tap dancing in front of a paraplegic  :nono:  The unwashed masses can only dream of such a room.  Jack if you persist in this behavior, I vote you spring for airfare to Manila...a show of hands guys  :thumb:

OK Jack, that's just not fair. I think we all need to come visit, nobody should have that much fun by themself. You need to be sure it's set up just so, and we really will try to help.....:)
