Cd volume vs turntable volume...long post

Ok, first the equipment involved---Aric Audio 3.6 tube preamp/Raysonic CD-128 tube cd player/NiteShade tube amp/Technics 1200 mk2 w/Denon Dl-110 cartridge and Cambridge 640p phono pre.

Problem, cd volume is much higher then that of the TT. The preamp has a 'trim' level on the rear, adjust till you hear distortion then back it off 1/8 to 1/4 turn.  Did that, sounds great on phono, try and cd and distortion is pretty bad.  If i turn the trim down to take care of the distortion then the phono output is very very low. Since the dl-110 is suppose to be fine on mm that's where i started, tried mc and the output dropped considerably.

Just in caseI swapped out the tubes in the preamp and the cd player, just to be sure, no change.  So, now what??
