PMC TB2/TLE1 bryston combo
« on: 29 Sep 2010, 02:55 pm »
I would like to know if anyone currently has/or had the TB2's/TLE1 sub in conjunction with BP25 and a older 4B amp? I got the itch to upgrade, and I was thinking of adding the sub to my existing system. In my current room size the TB2's are a little short on the bottom end. An alternative, would be to replace the Tb2's with larger PMC's.

My 3-5 yr goal is a pair of MB2's but that won't likely happen till after we build a house with a sound proof room. :)

cheers,

ec

I do not have that combo but something close:

TB2's driven by a 4B SST
Velodyne HGS-12x sub crossed over with a Bryston 10B
the above is used for 2 ch listening

for HT use, I use the Bryston SP 1.7 xover and run
four SVS ultra 12 passive subs

I have to go by memory as all the gear is in boxes now  :(

I actually looked at getting a TLE1 previously (5 years ago) but I felt it was over priced even in the used market.  It was basically twice the price of the HGS12 and on paper the HGS12 is a better preformer.  I have never listened to the TLE1 but I can see that in some situations it would be ideal such as small listening areas where quality(minimal distortion) over quantity (deep extension) is desired.  In any case, I am like you waiting to upgrade to the bigger PMC's.  The real key in making any sub / satellite combo work is the integration so you would need a good and flexible cross over.  I would see if you could borrow a "decent" sub and cross over which won't be cheap and try this out.  If you can't find the ideal sub location and proper integration - all bets are off.

For the price of the TLE1 - I would go for the bigger PMCs especially since you are running 2 ch.

I was negotiating with someone on Audiogon over a XB1-P, PMC's passive subwoofer with it's own crossover--perfect for a small project studio (it's in the early TB2 brocures)--but couldn't do the local pick-up. But, they seem to have stopped making them and going for the TLE, that certainly for the same purpose I can agree with EC that it's a bit over priced.
