It is a problem? Yes, the tonearm mass should "low", theoretically. How much is too much? I haven't even looked into what kinds of lateral effective mass if offered from many popular fixed-point tonearms. Is it 10? 20? 30g?

I thought the Shure ultra had 30cu, guess I was wrong. Maybe it's the V15? The AT33PTG is noted at 40 static I think, but 10? dynamic?

What happens on a large lateral modulation with a stiff low compliance cart. and medium/heavy mass in the arm? The same cart on a low mass arm? Doesn't a more compliant cart. allow for a great movement of the cart. body in response to such modulations, and not break?

Some of these carts are amazingly heavy:

Benz LP S-Class Specifications
Output: .36mV
Stylus: 5x120µm
Impedance: 38 ohms
Loading range: >400 ohms
Weight: 16g
Compliance: 15cu
Tracking force: 1.8-2g

Koetsu Coralstone Platinum Cartridge Specifications
Body: Coralstone
Type: Moving coil
Coil wiring: Silverplated copper
Magnet: Platinum magnet
Stylus type: Proprietary
Cantilever: High strength boron
Output volts: 0.3 mV
Frequency response: 20-100,000 Hz
Channel balance at 1 kHz: Better than 0.5 dB
Channel separation at 1 kHz: Better than 25 dB

Neobop, I'll be the first to admit you guys know more than I; just throwing this out there in the spirit of learning.

thanks
