Yes. you can.  I had Bryston service install the MM in my 26 last Spring.  If memory serves me the MM is $550 & the MC is $1295.  The external phono (MM & MC) is, I think, $2750 USD.

It's my understanding that it is not user installable and has to go to a Bryston service center.  But I could be wrong, an email/call to Bryston would confirm.

To my knowledge, that is an accurate representation of reality,

Same in the Netherlands, also quite expensive. Talk to a dealer in Switzerland, Bryston is a LOT cheaper there.

I still have the Mono/Stereo switch after the MM was installed.

With regards to a web source, the only authorized online source is, I believe, Audio Advisor.

The MC card also includes MM capability and the mono/stereo switch is used to select MC or MM.  The MM only card does not affect the switch.

For what it's worth I'd contact Bryston service before I would do anything.  A discussion with them of what you want to do with the BP-26 would answer all your questions and give you the best information.

Good luck

If you're going to have to ship your preamp across the Atlantic or even across Europe, your best bet may be an external phono stage.  Simaudio's LP3 and Dynavector's P-75 are excellent phono stages for the money, offer great reliability, and are very flexible with cartridges.  Not sure about prices and availability in Italia though.  The Dynavector may be easier to track down.

I'm probably going to get flamed for the Simaudio suggestion, being a Bryston board and all.

I have your back, Stu.  First of all I'm a huge Bryston fan.  I have a pair of 7B SST2's, a BP26P, MPS2 and a Torus CS15.  I don't use my on board phono section anymore.  Went to an MC cartridge, would not give up the mono/stereo switch or pay the $2,750.00 for the outboard BP1.5.  I'm using the Ray Samuels Audio F-117 Nighthawk and let me tell you before you buy anything within $2K of its $800.00 price you should give it a look.
