Boardwalk Empire is a new series on HBO with episode 1 airing last Sunday, Sept. 19th. I was mesmerized from start to finish. The series begins in Atlantic City the day before Prohibition, January 15, 1920 and chronicles the life and times of Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster.

Episode 1 is directed by Martin Scorsese and it shows. Character development is very well done, music from the '20's sets the mood and the sets look very authentic.

It made a very favorable impression on me as well. Looks like it has the potential to be the best thing HBO has done since the Sopranos and Rome.

Enjoyed the first episode myself. Interested in seeing how Al Capone's character develops and takes over the Mob. Also, one can see many emotional angles being open, such as Nucky's infatuation with the pregnant girl. Very Soprano-like as hinted above.

Steve Buscemi is a real peach,,, I love this guy. I loved his character in The Sopranos (for as long as he lasted ) and his new character is even better, he has me bustin' a gut (the bedroom scene with the butler simply killed).    I won't be missing an episode. for sure.

While I thought it was very good and Steve Buschemi did a great job, I just can't get into watching Steve Buschemi.  Its one of those things.
