Sony PS-X5/X6/X7 Cartridge Aligning..........
« on: 21 Sep 2010, 07:34 pm »
For those of you that own one of these wonderful DD TTs, and can't figure out how to align the cartridge with the many different 2 and 3 point platter card alignment systems, here is the secret.

For others, here is the problem. These Sony decks park the tonearm in the cue up position. Now, the PS-X5 has the normal mechanical switches and it is very easy to over-ride this problem. Just play a record, and pull the power plug from the outlet and the cue mechanism will stay lowered. Now you can align your cartridge and set tracking weight with a scale.

The PS-X6 and PS-X7 pose a very different problem. These are capacitive touch control tables and even pulling the power cord during play will not stop the tone arm from storing in the the tonearm latch in the cue up position. It is not defeatable by ordinary means.

The trick is to remove the cueing pad. One small 1/16 hex allen screw, loosened will allow you to remove the pad. Now the queing lever won't work, so it's totally manual, but you can get the job done. Set the weight before you re-install the queing pad.

This is a very simple solution for an un-solvable problem.
