Vinyl oh boy how sweet it is baby!
« on: 21 Sep 2010, 03:59 am »
Just wanted to say I just listened to Elvis tonight on a new album from speaker corner and WOW is all I can say!  Oh my god what a difference compared to listening to a compact disc. Just thought I'd share that, if anyone is out there on the fence about buying a turntable and some new albums to listen to.  I was really blown away tonight and can't believe the you are there sensation i got listening to this new album tonight, it really made my skin crawl it sounded that good. I am a vinyl believer again and love records again!

Just thought I'd share my thoughts with you this evening,

Dave

This post inspired me to pull out one of my Elvis LPs from back in the day --  "February 1970 On Stage" recorded live in Las Vegas.  I also was there at the International Hotel for the live performance.  The admission price for that show was $15 and included 3 drinks.  I recall that I asked for scotch and water and they served all 3 drinks at once before the show.  Amazing how that vinyl can almost put you right back there.

That was the only time I saw him in person.  It was an absolutely incredible performance while he was still at his peak.

Elvis in vegas, WOW baby it doesn't get any better than that!!  I would have given my left --- well almost anything to see one of his live performances at the man's peak.  I was only 7 when he passed and will never forget how sad I was even at that age, I was a big fan.  Nothing like listening to him on vinyl though! Cd's just don't cut it in that respect!

Persons not using analog playback and in some cases persons who are may care to know opinions or words of wisdom why analog is the superior medium.  Anybody care to bite on that?  I am not qualified myself.  Just a listener I am.  Thanks

I suppose I could offer a small something about what I hear.  With my analog rig there is a truer 'sense' of space and ambience in classical recordings.  I think my analog front end digs this out and lets it 'be' better.  Stages and halls are better 'lit'.  Both my front ends are pretty much the same age and costs very nearly the same.  Seems to me my digital playback is a little darker and dies out earlier.

It also helps that almost every single vinyl disc has pre and post echo. This is a crosstalk between the groves, so you can quietly hear the next grove and the previous grove together with the actual one. At 33 rpm this is about 2 sec time difference, which is a good echo delay for a medium size hall. Of course it feels livelier and more spacious when you have an added echo to the original signal :-)

That looks like an Oracle Delphi to me.  V, VI?
I have a birthday coming up, too.
Somehow, I don't think I'll be getting one of those.

My father actually served in the military with him while he was stationed in Germany. He has pictures to prove it too.
