The audiophile reissue with corrected tape speed of Kind of Blue is very good. Most of Miles' work was recorded in mono. There was a series of verbs ending in n' (Workin', Relaxin', Cookin', etc.) with The Miles Davis quintet or quartet that are mono but surprisingly well recorded. I was not a fan of his later stuff such as Bitch's Brew.

Try "Siesta" if you can find it. It's the soundtrack to a movie that's out of print now. The music was written and produced by Marcus Miller and Miles dubbed his parts in but the sound is fantastic on vinyl.

I'll agree about the reissue of "Kinda Blue". It's such a popular disk, I couldn't find a decent used copy. So I shelled out the $40 for the the new one. Sound very nice, far better than the other heavy reisues I got, like the 'Dan's "Aja" and the 'Floyds "DSotM" Those were everpriced pieces of crap to my ears.

I've not heard the vinyl version of "Tutu", but I remember the CD was really decent. All depends on whether you like his venture into a more modern form however.

A personal favorite live recording- Miles in Tokyo (Sony).  Sketches in Spain is a large band recording with Gil Evans that is a one of a kind masterpiece.

Mile's recordings don't seem to have ever suffered from lackadaisical engineering efforts, never heard any that I found lacking considering the time period any given record was recorded. That said, Bitches Brew is my favorite from musical and audio standpoints.

Get the Rudy Van Gelder remasters of these.  They sound great and a huge improvement from the CD's released in the 80's.

Haven't heard the latest & greatest re-issue of Kind of Blue, but the 1st remaster was a very nice improvement over the original release, and not that expensive. I also like Sketches of Spain a lot.

A collection album that I have, that I haven't even been able to find in Amazon's catalog listing is Green Haze. As always YMMV, but it's one of my favorites.

+1 on the Blackhawk Complete recordings. Personally, I would get Sat. night by itself. If you do, be sure to get the 2-disc version. Other recommendations:

If you are going strictly CD, the latest re-issues of the above titles also sound very good. Other CDs:

Ascenseur Pour L'Échafaud. Be sure to get the older, jewel-boxed CD on Fontana, as it includes the original soundtrack, along with all the tracks and out takes sans reverb.
