SP2
« on: 14 Sep 2010, 06:48 pm »
I am considering purchasing a SP2 and have a question regarding lip-sync. Is it possible to adjust this? I have looked through the on-line manual on the set-up of the SP2 and can find no reference as to how lip-sync might be carried out.

Is there an 'advanced setup' menu somewhere which allow the adjustment of lip-sync.

If this function is not available on the SP2, is it safe to assume that this function will be available on the SP3 (when it finally released)?

The reason I will need lip sync is that the picture processing on the TV I have (while helps generate a good picture) does introduce a delay vs the analogue out from the blu-ray player. Thinking about it, since in the SP3, the video/sound will come via the same HDMI connector - I guess the dellay may not be an issue

The delay is usually generated somewhere inside the DVD or Blu-Ray player, and can always be adjusted on the player. Which player do you have? Maybe we will be able to help you and let you know where to change things.

I have a Marantz UD8004 - I have read the manaul in more detail and see that it is possible to adjust lip-sync within the blu-ray player (thank goodness) - I also noticed that the amount of delay required seems to be different disk by disk.... I dont really understand why this would be the case - but at least I know that I can now adjust it.

However there does not appear to be any adjustment I can make with SKY.... any ideas what to do here?

James - thanks for the confirmation - but dont you think it's an important ommission not to have lip-sync on the SP3?

Hi Fernar,

I have to say I have never had any feedback with lip-sync issues with any of our processors other than the very first SP1's we bulit back 10 years ago.  With the newer TV's it just does not seem to be an issue anymore with our customers that I can tell.

James - thanks for the response - I guess if the conection between the TV and the processor is via HDMI there would be no problem - the issue comes when using the analogue output form the more upmarket Blu Ray players for sound in combination with HDMI for vision. It's an issue I am dealing with now - because I am waiting for the SP3 and will not upgrade my aging non HDMI processor I have right now. But I guess if one was moving to a total HDMI environment (where video is involved), then lip sync is no longer an issue.
