Vinyl Trivia
« on: 11 Sep 2010, 09:45 pm »
Here is some vintage vinyl trivia.....There was a Columbo episode where the murder happened at a house where genius's gathered. To fake gun shot sounds,a certain turntable was used (in a mouse trap fashion)to ignite a firecracker to create an alabi.Hint,Enos (Boss Hog)from the Dukes of Hazzard co-starred.What was the name of that turntable? One more hint,it had a lot of buttons!.....Mark Korda(mark.korda@myfairpoint.net)

I don't know the answer to that one, but I see you made the "letters to the editor" of Stereophile magazine.

Kudos Mr. Korda, and I also liked your answer about the Dynacos.

Hi Wayner, thank you so much for the note!A note coming from you is a big thing to me.You and Frank VA are my audio guru's.I have not got my issue of Stereophile yet so I had no clue about the letter.I like to (poke the nest)with those Stereophile editors.I think my best was when I got Micheal Fremmer real mad about a pair of 15 grande monitors from Sonus Faber that specs were not even as good as the Dyna-A-25xl's.I saw a picture of you with him in Stereophile or Absolute Sound. As back to the trivia,I know you know the turntable in question, but I'll e-mail you with the answer so others can still try to figure it out.I could never stump you with a vintage hi-fi question, but I quess I just watch to much TV...thank you very much Wayner,I'm in the 4th quarter of ND vs. Michigan...great game!...Mark Korda

Mark....I can't answer your question but I've got to call you out on the Dukes of Hazzard reference.Enos Strate was played by Sonny Shroyer and Boss Hogg was played by Sorrell Booke.I can't figure out your "Hint,Enos (Boss Hog)" wording.Maybe I'm just dense!! :duh: BTW,kudos for making Mikey mad, good job!! :thumb:

An ADC, Sharp or Optonica would be my stab in the dark. They had tons of buttons because they were "programmable" to play individual tracks in any order.

Nebob, you were first, but Nels Ferre was second. You nailed it both of you.The ADC Accutrac 4000.This was in the magizine I'm looking at ,the first attempt to market computerization into a turntable,500 bucks,1977.You both win a beer.If you dare send me your address,I'll try as an experiment to send you a bottle of Gearys from Portland Me. thru the mail and see if it makes it...Mark..I'm launching one more trivia for I hit the rack.
