Insight+ Double Die 580

Frank -

Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying the Double Die Insight+ 580.  With that 1kw transformer, I was a bit concerned that the lights in the neighborhood would dim when I powered it up, but all is well.   :)

I continue to be amazed at the incremental improvements you can extract from your systems.  I was very satisfied with my OmegaStar 260EX, but the Insight+ is clearly better.

Another satisfied customer...

Wow, congrats on your new amp!  Give us more detailed impressions in a listening report, once you've had a chance to form them.

Congratulations on taking the plunge on the upgrade! It's interesting, isn't it? It already sounds great, surely there should not be much room for improvement... maybe there wasn't... but there it is, sounding better.  :icon_surprised:

Congratulations on the purchase.

Glad to hear your enjoying the amp.  I almost pulled the trigger and went for that Insight 580, I saw it at the AKFest show in Detroit.  But then I really do see a double Ultra 550 in my future.  I wonder if Frank is going to make the Insight+ 580 a regular in the product line?

First of all this is an Insight+ solid state amplifier, not an Ultra hybrid.

We were hoping for a 300 W/Ch version with our Insight+ series, using a huge 1 KW power transformer, a much bigger raw power supply and the double die Exicons.

Unfortunately, the transformer droops just enough at full power to pull the output down to 290 W/Ch instead of 300 so it ends up being called the Insight+ 580 instead of a 600.  We will need a bigger and more expensive power transformer yet to make the power rating we want, and we run out of chassis room for anything bigger.

Yes, we can make more of them, but only on a special order basis.

Meanwhile, I do have a nice OmegaStar 500EX amp available built in a black Hafler 500 chassis.  This can be upgraded to a current Insight+ 500 amplifier too.

Hi Frank,

Does the Insight+ Double 580 drive the Salk Soundscapes their full dynamic range?

It seems like it must be another wonderful design exercise you brought to fruition!

Dennis Murphy has been using an Insight+ Double 250 in his crossover design work for the SoundScape speakers.  This is a 130 W/Ch version of this design built in a Hafler DH-220 chassis.  It seems to get the job done for him from top to bottom.

I have not heard the SoundScapes driven by a big Insight+ amplifier yet, but I am certain the combination will be outstanding.

Best regards,
