Headphone output of Bryston Speaker Switchbox
« on: 10 Sep 2010, 08:08 pm »
I have one of the 3-way Bryston switchboxes for loudspeakers ... what impedance headphones work best with this unit??  Will it drive low impedance phones like Grados or would I be restricted to high impedance models from Sennheiser and others???  Also (if anyone knows), how does this headphone output compare to a dedicated headphone amplifer??

thanks in advance!

Hi Jeff,

Because the switchbox allows the headphones to be driven by the power amplifier connected to it there is no issue with different types of headphones.

Looked into these boxes years ago to run high impedance 300-600ohm phones for the studio, as James mentions probably any phone could be driven, but high impedance phones like the AKG 240DF at 600ohms greatly benefited from the increased power.
