Lancing box and RCA jack options for Clarinet
« on: 10 Sep 2010, 05:06 am »
I am in the process of assembling parts for a Clarinet. I like the Lancing boxes, and the instructions suggest box #B2H12-V01B as an upgrade. However, I like the captive nut option and the six top screws as opposed to four, which means the slightly more expensive box #B2H12-V62B. Is there any reason why this box might not work? Is there a downside?

Also, has anyone used the Neutrik D-style (square) RCA jacks? Any fitment issues? (see http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=NF2D-B-2virtualkey56810000virtualkey568-NF2D-B-2)

Finally, if I use the jacks above do I need a coaxial cable to connect back to the PCB or will twisted pair be sufficient?

I think the 6 top screw option is only available in Vinyl-Clad aluminum (Maybe not the best choice to be used next to hot tubes).  You may want to call Lansing to verify this.  The 4 hole choice is anodized aluminum

Correct! Thanks for saving me from myself. I called Lancing Enclosures and confirmed what you just wrote.

I ordered the 4-hole version, which does indeed come in black anodized aluminium.

One more piece of information, on your first order they will give you a 15% discount if you ask for it. I found this when browsing their website. My box ended up costing just under $100 with the discount.

Let us know how the build goes.  I plan on doing one for my fall project.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong, I think that Vinyl-Clad aluminum is what HP and Textronix (ie Type 547 Oscilloscope) used on some of their old vintage equipment for the enclosures.  It is the stuff that out gasses over 20 years and turns sticky and slimy.
