Best way to connect BP26, BCD, BDA & BDP?
« on: 3 Sep 2010, 06:19 pm »
Hi Guys,
I'm Going to be ordering a BDA-1 this week in readiness for the BDP to go with my BCD-1, BP26 & 4B SST2 and really want to make sure I hook everything up for the optimal performance so I thought I'd ask the question, what is the best way to connect everything up? I'm thinking something like :-

BCD to BP26 - Phono Cables?
BCD to BDA - AES-EBU?
BDA to BP26 - Phono Cables?
BDP to BDA - I would have thought AES-EBU but the BDA only has 1 AES-EBU input?

James, any idea when we'll see the BDP in the UK?

Thanks.

I would connect the BCD straight to Bal 1 on the BP26 AES EBU,  BDP to BDA via AES EBU then BDA to Bal 2 on the BP26 AES EBU.  There have been several discussion on here regarding direct connection of the BCD to BP26 vs. through the BDA and there doesn't appear to be any advantage to doing so sonically.

Good suggestion from Dyna.  It will be interesting to play around with the different options to see what works best for you.  You could also connect the BCD-1 to the BDA-1 using an SPDIF input which would then allow you to do source selection using the BR2 Remote Control.  Seems like there are a lot of people getting ready for the BDP.   :D

Hi Vipers,

We hope to start shipping the BDP-1 in first week of October.  It will depend a lot on when the different distributors have ordered - As of today we were 83 units backordered.

Thanks for the replies guys, another question.

When I was building an Arcam System I was told by Arcam to only use XLR for longer cables runs, as my systems is in a rack and the longest cable is 0.75m is there any advantage of using XLR over normal phono cables for short distances?

Thanks.
