I am a owner of vr-4.5 and cam across an old review on six moons that essentially bashes VSA for about 6 pages. Any comments on the article?

Thanks for the scoop mini.  How do you like the sound of your 4.5s?  Not satisfied?  I see you are first time poster anywhere on Audio Circle.  Could you tell us a little more about yourself?

The real problem with the 6 moons review is its weird, and seemingly motivated selectivity: the vast majority of the product reviews and manufacturer descriptions are designed to move merchandise into the homes of men who have some disposable cash and a passion for music and audio gear. Albert seems restrained by comparison. In any case, if women rather than men were the consumers of audio equipment, I guarantee we'd be hearing about follicle stimulating loudspeakers, and about preamps that don't make your ass look big.

It basically boils down to product reviewers are used to being smoozed and coddled by product manufacturers and when  that doesn't happen it hurts their feelings and chances of a good review lessen.  After skimming this review it appears that is what happened.

..fol(l)icle stimulating loudspeakers...that don't make your ass look big. .alas, a quality not intrinsic to my VR5 Anniversaries.

If only my VR4 genIIIs could manage some follicle stimulation! Albert?

I love my VSA dB99 speakers. Other's may not. Doesn't bother me. I have no interest in reading pages of reviews because in the end it's somebody else's experiences and opinions. I'll trust my own experience and opinion when it comes to VSA.

I don't know of a single mfr. that doesn't play some version of dungeons and dragons in their product literature.  I also don't care how Albert got to where he did on the VR5 annies...through rigorous science or serendipity...they are outstanding speakers, period.  So there!  :thumb:

A little bit about me.  I love my speakers!!! I actually got rid of my vandersteen 3a signs for these speakers.  And I pretty much agree with the comments made so far.  Who care if there is some unscientific information as long as they sound good that is all that matters.  I just wanted to get an idea of what others thought since I personally care alot about evidence and science.  I'll post pics of my speakers tommorow!

I find it funny. Seriously. Look at what 7 years can bring. In the last three years the "darling" speakers have moved to or are using asymmetrical crossovers. Something we VSA guys have been enjoying from day one. Looks like the author got hung up on 1st order dogma.

Someone hand him his hat or his foot to chew on.

The bad part about this is the competition has been getting closer  But not yet!  :thumb:

The curious thing about this article is how aggressive it is towards VSA....

Another peculiar thing is that Srajan was present in last year's High End Show in Athens Greece and in his review in 6 moons what he named as the 6 best systems (in his opinion) were amongst the worst of the show according to the opinion of the members of the major Greek audio forums !!!

Albert told me about this article some time ago. A couple of things he said were that there was a retraction printed later and that the guy that wrote it was the former sales manager for Meadowlark speakers. Anything we read needs to taken with a grain of salt.

Macmini welcome to the forum :thumb:. Albert loves talking about the science of speaker design, If that is your interest also you might enjoy a conversation with him.

 Blessings, Bob

I noticed that there was no author mentioned in these articles, which I thought was really strange.

Funny, though, after reading it my speakers sound just the same as before

At least now I know not to own any gear where the mfgr gets a little "loose" with the acronyms and hype. Therefore, all of my gear is now up for sale  :thumb:

That review points out exactly the type of thing that has always bothered me about Von Schweikert.
