anyone else reading the macintosh saga at aa-a guy tries to sell his amp on ebay and mc wants him to change his add, he refuses so mac has ebay yank the add, then they follow him over to audiogon and do the same.
its very good reading, some people agree with mc but most say screw them-

Won't asylum members almost always jump at the chance to say "Screw them"?? Did you see this ad on eBay?--"Screw them!" Did you see the latest Musical Fidelity review in Stereophile??--"Screw them!"

tonto have you read it yet :?:
he has a copy of the add and its ok-nothing for mcintosh to get bent over-
he has email from the lawyer too, like most lawyers apiece of shit.
take a hour and read the thread-mcintosh is wrong on this.

the world would be a much better place with 50% less lawyers-

I read a little bit of the thread initially, but it didn't interest me enough to wade through all the posts. Seemed like the seller could have just added "warranty doesn't transfer" at the outset and avoided all the problems. Of course, I might feel differently if I were in his shoes.

the point is they have no right to pull his add because he didnt -has no warranty is a given on most used equipment, odyssey and bryston are the few good ones who do transfer-

he made no mention of a warranty-mcintosh was wrong to send a thug lawyer after him :nono:

I am curious as to who McIntosh is protecting... Are they protecting themselves or are they protecting the consumer?  Hmmm.  Just a thought.

What do computers have to do with audio?

I tried to take a look, but I can't find the start of it without spending undue time. A link would have been helpful.  :?

In a nutshell, what was Mc's beef with his ad?

He said it was "like new" and only 2 weeks old.

Mac wanted him to say that there would be no warranty for the purchaser.
He refused so Mac had Ebay pull the ad because they felt he was  trying to deceive a purchaser who might think a warranty would go with the unit.

He advertised that amp as being LIKE NEW, not NEW.

Yesterday I met a woman who was LIKE MY WIFE. She was not, however, MY WIFE. I therefore did not rub her butt as a means of saying "Hello".

I modified that a bit from the post I left at AA.

I can understand that this would make a great debate. I can see the argument for both sides... really.  8)

This does fall in line with Mcintosh's 40+ year marketing philosophy to create a lifetime bond with the consumer and I'm betting the devotees appreciate their efforts. This may be a bit over the top, however.

I don't know about anyone else, but I know that anytime i'm set to buy ANYTHING used I automatically assume there is a no warranty.  if I find out there is, all the better.  95% of the stuff I come across does not transfer... so why should this be any different?

I read much of those posts on AA and figured it is a "cover your ass" move by McIntosh.  They had probably run into warranty issues (bad feelings, lost money) in the past and now they actively try to avoid them.  Obviously it didn't work in this case.

That said, they do seem to have overstepped their bounds in this case by having the ads pulled.  I'm surprised people aren't more up in arms with Audiogon and Ebay for their roles.

I'd hazard a guess that EBay and AG figure it's not their problem. If a lawyer shows up threatening action unless an ad is pulled then they just pull it, it's not their fight. Same thing would happen here.

it looks like mcintosh was way off base on this one
