Sorry fellas, but I just spent $410 for a new lamp for my "InFocus" projector.
I had to whine about it. Thought you fellas would understand.

It should arrive UPS on Thursday. Once I get it installed and see how much better it looks, I'm certain I'll "fell better".

Feel your pain, brother.  Count yourself lucky it was just the bulb.

OUCH Bob.  I thought your were running a Sanyo, which Infocus did you get?

FWIW, I have had 4 Infous projectors and typically put 4000+ hours on all of their bulbs (although I have had a few other issues).

Best,
Ed

Ed, you're right, I had a Sanyo PLV-Z2 that lasted over 6000 with the assistance of two bulbs. May have reached 7000, I can't recall.
The current unit is an InFocus IN76 (1080i). It's been a real long time since I checked it's clock, but if I'm adding correctly in my head it's WAY over 3,000 hours. When I change the lamp, I'll check the exact numbers and let you know.

The painful part is the Sanyo lamp was like $290. The InFocus is $410.

But like Bob said, I do feel luck it's just the bulb.

Bob,
The IN72 (480P machine) was my previous projector prior to the current X10 (1080P machine), the IN72 proved to be an outstanding unit until lightning came in on the cable feed.  Even the HD feed on the IN72 was great, not as good as a true HD projector but excellent none the less.

You have PM.

Best,
Ed

I checked the hours on my lamp last night. My memory has (already) faded slightly (  ) but it was a bit over 4,400 hours. Not too bad for an advertised life of 3,000.
Can't complain about that.

Ed, I'm generally feeding the unit standard DVD, but occasionally Blueray from a PS3. For a 720p/1080i unit, it sure does look great. MUCH brighter and more vivid than my PLV-Z2. The BBC "Planet Earth" series is the most stunning, memorizing image I've seen. This projector does it well. Very well.

I'm sitting here at work checking email and just got one from my lovely wife who is at home.
The lamp has arrived.  8)

I'm feeling ill. < cough cough >
I think going home would make me feel better.

p.s. Ed, PM received, and bounced backatcha.

Is that the Bluray version or the DVD version?  I have the DVD version, and this is one of the movies I'm considering buying the Bluray version for.  However, it's a bit expensive.

I like the scenes where the guys are jumping off the edge of the hole into the cave.

Buy the Bluray used.

$50 new and $26 used on Amazon

Thanks, George.  I didn't realize you could buy used Blurays on Amazon.

Too bad my daughter is too young for a lot of this (can't show her rabbits getting chased down and eaten), because it is stunning.

I got the five disc (or maybe it was six?) Blueray version. I figured if I'm going to spend that much, I might as well go all the way and the top dog version. Of course I'm watching it in 1080i, but.......someday.

One piece of advise regarding this set; If you want the voice of Sigorney Weaver, the only place you can buy it is through the Discovery Channel. Everybody else that sells this uses David Attenborough[sp] to narrate.
Of course if you're buying used, that doesn't apply.

I didn't know that until after I bought mine, but I would have preferred Sigorney.

Just installed the new lamp. Wow.   :o
I'm watching David Gilmour Live at the RoyalAlbert Hall (Blueray).
Wow, just wow. You see the individual hairs on David arm as he's playing guitar. Wow.

The old lamp has exactly 4342 hours on it, by the way. Not bad.  :D
