The DCM-360 is not your average changer. It packs an 18-bit D/A converter and Denon's ALPHA processing, two sound-centric features found on higher-end Denon machines. Denon's ALPHA processing uses some convoluted math to provide 20-bit resolution from 16-bit CD sources, although it's different from HDCD, which does essentially the same thing. In addition to its higher-end conversion section, the 360 has some unique niceties. The line output level is adjustable in 12 steps from 0-18 dB; it's not an actual volume control, but more of a fine-tuning adjustment to balance the player with the rest of your system. You can change all four discs while another spins. In order to shorten the seemingly infinite wait between discs, the carousel rotates in both directions. Also present are the standard transport functions, such as disc or global programming, multi-mode repeat and direct track access from the remote. There's also a shuffle mode that will not repeat a track until all others have played once. Denon didn't overlook the headphone jack, either.
