Demo's for Canada?
« on: 20 Aug 2010, 08:53 am »
Hi Danny,

Just curious, have you ever thought about sending a demo pair around Canada?

I am not sure how many up here would be interested, perhaps it would be many?

I would....
My V-1s impress my friends, but they are not willing to invest the $ I have.
It would be interesting to let them hear the other offerings at a
smaller price point....no one believes you can get a nice kit for under $500
After listening to my father in laws GRs......I know it can be done.
Unfortunately he is 800mi away......Canada is a big place.

The initial receiver would have to pay tax on the declared value.

Yes it would be great to get a pair of N2X' up here or something like that.  I guess Danny would know best how many inquiry's he gets from this region.  But ya it would be sweet.

If there is enough of you that want to do that then I can make it happen. There is going to be some duty on it as it first comes over the boarder though.

Maybe the initial signup list could split the duties so that one person doesn't take it in the shorts. I would like to get the Neo 2x up to django1, so he could here what I am talking about.

Hi Danny

I guess you would need to assume all the risk and not have a declared value to avoid brokerage fees/taxes.

Or depending on the declared value, it would work if you pay the shipping and the person on the recieving end pays the brokerage on declared/insured value into Canada in lieu of shipping. I think there is a way to insure it but not declared for brokerage fees  but not sure. It gets complicated shipping like that though.

Depending on the declared value it can get expensive.

Just so you know what you’re getting into...  Anything shipped with a declared value of $60 is subject to GST and PST or HST depending on the province.  If Danny ships them by courier like UPS or FedEx, there will also be a brokerage fees that could easily run as high as $100, if not higher.

Shipping with USPS will circumvent brokerage fees, but there's no way around the tax.

For obvious reasons, I don't think it's fair to ask Danny to ship them without declaring the actual value.

One more thing, I'm guessing these speakers weigh somewhere between 40 to 50 lbs for the pair, so shipping from one person to the next will probably cost on average $40 to $50 and double that if they were to be returned to the USA; although I'm most certain that someone would buy them.  New or used, you're not going to find a better speaker without paying a lot more money.

I ship orders to Canada on a weekly basis.  :thumb: You guys are great customers. So I know all about it.

And yes, they insure it for the declared value. Plus there is a $675 limit to what I can insure each box for, and you guys will have to pay taxes on whatever that is.

UPS is different. It is easier on my end but they also hit you guys with a hefty brokerage fee.

Hey Don, very kind!  I'd like mine done out of bubinga...

Depending on the price and the condition they arrive in here I would be willing to be last on the list and would probably buy these.  I mean, if there aren't fifty people on the list...  I don't know if that helps at all.

Here is a good tool for adding up all the "hidden" costs :The Final Cost http://www.thefinalcost.com/

USPS is definitely best for us.

Hi,

Shipping duties seem to be worse than Australia.  I remember receiving a number of interconnects from Lonewolf42 a number of years ago.  Customs tried to hit me up with import tax but we were able to get around this that they weren't being sold and were a loan pair.

I didn't end up paying duty in the end.  I also received USPS package last year and didn't pay any brokerage fees.  What is going on in Canada?

Regards

Rod

Hi,

We have FTA with the US and now no longer pay for 5% customs fee.

Danny

If you had someone in Windsor or close, you could ship them to me in Detroit and I could go visit the casino     That would save all of the customs type of stuff. :thumb:

I would be very interested in participating if the tour was for the Venues or Venuettes, but I know that's not going to happen.
