I watched Part 1 earlier tonight...this is a vast cinematic landscape. Its like  Ben Hur kind of film.
International Version, 288 minutes long.
Can't wait to receive Part 2...on 1 at a time Netflix.

My review from another site
"Red Cliff . A John Woo! film. "The film primarily follows the historical text called the Records of Three Kingdoms (3rd century AD) as a blueprint for the Battle of Red Cliffs". Apparently in Asia it was 2 films totaling 280 minutes while in NA it is one 150 minute film. A little long and sentimental. Costumes and decor are great while battle scenes are totally over the top: a mix of Kung Fu, Excalibur and Saving Private Ryan. Really. I think a better sub would have dramatically increased my enjoyment of the film. There is a lot of martial drumming and battle drums and the cavalry charging on a big sub must be house shaking . I can only imagine, on more than one occasion my little sub whimpered under the strain.

This is originally in mandarin so I watched with sub titles although there are English, French and Spanish dubbing's. As anglos are terrible at dubbing, I didn't bothering trying..."

Saw Part 2...and would rate the whole film a 4.25/5
I would rate Part 1 @ 4.75 and Part 2 @ 4...having seen it with an interval of 4 days between the two. I felt that Part 2 suffered at the editing stage...too many bumps in the flow.

Well... I'd give it a 2 maybe 3 out of 5.  I thought it was a yawner.  I am a big fan of Romance of the Three Kingdom novels if that means anything.  I think John Woo is trying to do his "Citizen Kane" with this movie but backfired.

Watched this tonight.  Woo is a bit of a dullard with regard to plot, but his cinematography is simply stellar.  Worth watching for the visual beauty alone.

Watch out Shek...Chinatown is gonna' be under a shakedown.

By the way, I bought the BluRay of this movie, makes a good video reference.
I think I have watched it about twice since the purchase. Love the subtle inference to mastery of the elements.  :thumb:

I saw the abridged version in the theater.  May be I should pick up a cheap(er) BR version in Chinatown also, since I just got a BR player, before Chinatown gets raided. :green:
