I would like to take 6 channels of the 875HT, bridge them to three channels of 250W and feed them to my Paradigm Ref100's and Studio CC across the front.  I am currently driving those and my rears/surrounds with an Anthem PVA7.  The spare channels will then be used to feed some outdoor speakers and other zones.  Is that a reasonable plan, or would I regret bridging?

Hi Markus,

Did I miss answering your question on the 875?

Well, what I really want to know is whether two channels bridged on the 875 will work well with the Ref100's and Studio CC as compared to the PVA7.

Hi Markus,

Yes the 875 HT bridged across the front works very well. In fact I have a reviewer currently using this setup and he is extremely complimentary. Should see the review in about a month.

I'm very interested in the 875.. i'd like to use it to power multiple zones in the house, but its probably overkill for ceiling speakers in 4 or 5 zones.

James - did I see the MSRP for the 875 is somewhere around $6000 cdn?

HI,

$5395 Canadian.
The 875 is not overkill for good ceiling speakers. The 875 was developed because a lot of our dealers were telling us that as ceiling and inwall speakers were becoming more sophisticated the need for better amplifiers was becoming necessary.

How would you compare one channel of a 9B-SST to two bridged channels of the 875?  (pros/cons)

When you bridge an amplifier it "sees' 1/2 of the impedance it does in stereo. So (Example) 8 ohms becomes 4 ohms as far as the amp is concerned. As the impedance drops the amplifier has to deliver more current and less voltage - so the amplifiers output stage and power supply has to be able to meet this demand.
If the speaker is nominally 8 ohms (and they never are) then most high quality amplifiers will not have a problem delivering into the resulting 4 ohms. If the speaker is rated at 4 ohms though then 2 ohms becomes quite a task.
So I would not recommend bridged amps into any load lower than 8 ohms unless the amplifier is capable of driving very low impedances.

In bridged mode, I would want to drive:
- Paradigm Ref100's (V2)
- Studio-CC center channel

both 8 ohms I think.

Hi Markus,

You should be fine with the 875 bridged.
