Question about Tele 12AU7 smoothplate
« on: 17 Aug 2010, 08:35 pm »
I have a Telefunken 12AU7 smoothplate with very faint printing/labels. The one thing that is clear is that is reads "Made in Western Germany".
I have seen other examples that read made in West Germany, as well.

Does this give any indication of the approximate year(s) of manufacture? Can I assume that those with "Made in Western Germany" may be manufactured earlier, let's say late 50's to very early 60's? And that those labelled Made in West Germany might be from the the period after?

Just wondering. Any other way to nail down the age of a tele?

Thanks

Once you dig into the ephemera and documentation, you quickly realize there is no way to explicitly date a Tele. Every time you get a 2 letter code on the tube, what the hell does it correspond to on the lists?

Isn't it early-70s they stopped/shifted production to Ei, or the machines were bought by Ei?
