Integrated recommendation for LS6 line array
« on: 13 Aug 2010, 11:23 pm »
Hey been doing tons of reading.  I've only ever driven this line array with SS and am looking to go tube integrated.  I'd like to pay $1300, used is fine by me.

91/db efficiency

BG Magnetic tweeters.

Room size is 24x16

Thanks for your thoughts.

That's not going to be enough power for those LS6's.  Although 91 db efficient, they bloom with extra watts- more than 75 wpc range.  Sometimes a used Dodd 120 come up for around $1500.

Oops. Just noticed the request for integrated

basically correct, although it will drive them well enough you still only have 8 watts to play with, this from the same series has much more power, while not 300B SET it does have it's own KT88/6SN7 Treasure magic and is in the price range requested:

I would look for, or maybe try to negotiate with a dealer for, a Rogue Cronos integrated.

55 WPC tube integrated with a phono stage as well if you want to get into vinyl.

I have been looking at getting tube amplifiers, and Rogue is at the top of my list.

The Manley integrateds are also supreme. Perhaps if you can find someone selling an original Stingray used you can get it for that much.

In that price range, you might check out the Jolida line....

You can find a good deal on a used model.

Good Recco. At least these  products are serviced and represented here in the USA.  S&G Custom Sound in Douglaston Queens sells and is the service rep in the US. We had a Jolida FX-10 [10W /ch] in for demo and it sounded great with Omega speakers. At $450 retail it is a no brainer but time will tell. The owner is Musician as well. However with the US manfs offering such quality products check out Nightshade, Dodd, CJ, Audio Research, etc.
The only inviting part of the Chinese gear IMO is price. I have owned numerous Chinese products and to date have had issues with the customer service, poor parts quality, inferior designs [ fire hazards] and failure. Buyer beware. If you must use AMEX for the extra warranty you WILL need it. Jolida may be the exception.

Audio space and Nuera amps are another exception, I would especially reccoemend the audiospace amps I own a mini-2004 and its incredible the sound and build quality this amp has.

Agreed!  Add to the list of features a headphone section and REMOTE!  The last two Croni have sold on Audiogon for under $1,200 methinks.
