Weather sealing is one thing, submersion quite another.  Although I have heard of two instances where a K7 was accidentally submerged and survived.  Not something I’d try.

However it's nice to be fearless in the face of the elements.  There's been too many times where I had to quickly take cover with my Kx, but it's nice to have an unencumbered body with a selection of lenses and not to have to worry about pouring rain, snow, extreme cold, dust or sandstorms.

I am gun shy having lost a 35mm film camera to a rogue wave on a cliff 20+ft above the ocean. So any sign of substantial moisture is a time to put away my camera(D700), even though it has a few weather sealing gaskets. But my lenses are still vulnerable! Most nikon lenses don't have weatherproofing except newer VR lenses. my old 18-70 DX did have a gasket though.
