Agree that we should always review committments.  For me, work is constantly taking time i could be listening to music, practicing music.  And then I'm wasting money on college tuition for the kids.  Things like that.

Do I need a new DAC?  C'mon, thats what friends are for.

Note: Nothing says they are going out of business.  The only thing for sure we know is that they won't be operating out of that location any more.

Regardless of if they are going out of business or not, there is a large problem that I am facing right now with these dealers in general (not SbS)

I have been shopping around for a tube amplifier.

The thing that I am noticing is that a lot of these dealers just don't care about customer service.

One, the communication is spotty be it by email or phone. I guess unless you are there with money hanging out of your pockets; they could careless about you as a potential customer.

Two, they are unwilling to negotiate on price. I understand that they need to make money; but if you aren't going to work with the customer, then you are going to lose a lot of buisness. We are in a recession, and anybody that is willing to spend thousands of dollars at your store should be treated with a certain level of courtesy.

Some places I have talked to have offered me MSRP pricing, or measley 8 percent discounts.

That might sound like a ridiculous thing to say, but this is a high markup specialty excess hobby.

Andy is NOT going away he is letting the lease expire. Just to clarify a point . Andy sells NAD and other inexpensive gear as well. He has access to both the highend crowd and the average Joe.
I designed and built Andys' prevoius location on E 33rd St in Man. many moons ago.  Which cost him some serious cash. Th new locarion that is closing cost him a bundle to build. The rent alone would make some quiver. It is a business never forget that. If one takes the plunge with serious money then God bless him for making every dollar he made. Andy is a no nonsense guy who is an excellent businessman. He built quite a business. Now that the economy is hurting and the big spenders are silent right now, it is time to reorganize and trim the fat.
Hey check out the sale items one could pick up an Esoteric or DCS CDP or DAC.  for a VG price. I want the Zanden . Just because you cannot afford or refuse to pay high prices [ like me with cable pricing ] leave the ones who can alone. :thumb:

Methinks you need to be shopping in the used marketplace and getting a 40-50% break on MSRP rather than shopping at dealers who have an overhead to pay. Of course that means "you buys what you likes and youse takes your chances." However, you should be able to turn it around without a significant loss that way if it doesn't work out.

AS has been in this business a long time, so I'm fairly sure he sees the current marketplace exactly as stated above. Don't be surprised when he opens an internet only business and trades in a lot of used equipment going forward.

If I could stretch your $20k cdp into $25k, maybe i could pick up a used pair of MBL 101e's.

Those would be very nice to have. One of my all-time favorites.

Here is a used pair of MBL 116 in Rosewood for $9600. They are beautiful.
