I am saddened.  It is not as if I ever purchased much from there but the few times I visited, they were never, ever pushy and I was allowed to browse and listen to my heart's content.  Hopefully they find a place to go and this is not the real end.

Their really high end stuff is not on sale.  Perhaps a inventory trimming gimmick in order to lighten the load for a move.

wow - some serious prices there :o

Mr. Singer has quite a history here at AC....he made quite a entrance and exit on a few occasions. Unfortunately all of 'SingerBull' posts seem purged from the AC archives.

Andrew is/was some piece of work

Hey!

Wow! Didn't see this coming :o

I bought my first amp there Adcom 535II back in early 90's and a few more things after that. But not any in the past couple of years.

Anyway, this is unexpected for me. That is the last audio store I expected to go out. :?

   Well, nothing lat forever.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I'll follow the old saying...

When you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.

Too bad.  But in this economy, I don't need/can't justify a $20K  cd player.

Are there economies in which a 20K CDP is justified?  Maybe if you're a part owner of Google.

If I was I could buy it so I could make the guy with the $18,000 cd player feel inadequate.

Everything is relative when it comes to money.

Nobody should have to justify their purchase.  They should do whatever makes them happy (assuming it is legal).

Well Said, I would also add IF I could afford it I would'nt feel the need to justify my purchase.

I'll rephrase that, then.  For me, I could never justify spending 20K on a CDP, regardless of how much money I made.  I'd rather give 20K to a scholarship fund, for instance.

But then what does the economy have to do with justifying a purchase?  If you have the money, you have the money.

Exactly, I see no merit in a 20K  cdp.  1)  They aren't worth it (yes I have heard them) 2)  Money could be better spent elsewhere. I'd rather have $20K  JBL Everests anyway.

its a sad time- the economy sucks, and hifi is no longer sexy.

i dont understand how any bricks n mortar hi end stores stay in business.  dont know anybody who spends that kind of money on new stuff- i'm in with the bottom feeders that use Agon, but always wonder who the original buyers are.

look at the Singer demo list- there are some good buys there- a VPI scout for a grand, some good prices on Vienna acoustics, Rega, others.

If I could stretch your $20k cdp into $25k, maybe i could pick up a used pair of MBL 101e's.

I agree with you on this.  If I were to spend 20k, it wouldn't be on a CDP.  I could think of many more profitable places (in terms of the increase in sound quality) to put a money into a system.

If someone can afford a 20K CDP, more power to them.  I had a salesman tell me that some of the people who bought expensive gear had crappy cars and would buy gear instead of anything else.  It was an addiction.  I used to be that way, too, and thought nothing of spending 5K on an amp.  Now, I have too many commitments and question my own priorities.  If I can buy a 1K amp that has 95% of the sound quality of the 5K amp, why not do that?  Especially when that 4K can go to something that doesn't feed my addiction to audio.
