It is interesting to note that the well reputed Hornresp programme also could be used to simulate OB speakers with No Baffle, like in this example with the 18Sound 6Nd430 speaker. This is the input, the speaker surface and the cone surface notably and then just assign a dummy diminutive horn to the speaker, like this:



and calculate the resulting radius with respect to the speaker surface to obtain the no-baffle response:



I will hang this 6Nd430 in rubber bands, I think !

I know little and understand less about the technical aspects, the physics of this stuff but have had OBs for a long time. Recently changed the baffle of the B200 to a totally minimalist design, that essentially supported the B200 from below, with about an inch of baffle on the other three sides. The openness of the sound and the imaging were improved over the former baffle I was using. And Rudolf's treatise seemed to confirm this. Naturally things are different for the Alphas, but the minimalist baffle with U frame seems to work okay in my listening room.
