See V-2 kit info: http://www.gr-research.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=157

I finally got a chance to get it up for on line ordering.

This kit not only stomps anything in this price range but does so for only $1,295. Now here is the really crazy part. On top of that, I am going to run it on sale for the month of August September. I am going to sell this kit for $1,095. That's $200 off!

Here is the deal. This is only for members of Audio Circle. To get it, you have to shoot me a PM letting me know that you want the deal, and I'll knock $200 off.

This thread got a bit derailed there for a little bit, and it became all about having to deal with Lowtech rather than the subject of the thread.

I have these kits on sale!

I appreciate that. If you want to click the "remove" button then I'll do the same to mine. Then this thread would be all fresh again.

I meant to just move the other part of this thread to something here in my forum but somehow moved it to the waste bin. I think it was still set on waste bin from when I removed a post that was flaming AC.
Ahhhhh.  Premature fingerulation.  Happens to us old guys  :rotflmao:

I think this speaker is a huge bargain.  When you had them set up in the corner room at LSAF they were throwing a big soundfield that was so deep I had to squint to hear. Seriously, they were very big, wide and deep with a pleasing (read that: not hard or harsh) spectral balance.  If I weren't building my Super V's (finally) I would consider these for my room.  I liked what I heard... alot.

I heard these at LSAF also, and i came away with the same thoughts, these are VERY easy to listen to. They had alot of the same qualities as the Super V, in that they had a excellant balance and very good bass without the need for an external subwoofer. But the speaker and woofers being OB didnt overload the room, just had a very appeasing rich FULL sound. They of course didnt have the dynamics of the Supers but in this price bracket they are certainly a lone ranger. I also could eaisily live with these if i didnt already own OB/7's.

I liked what i heard alot too. These are a steal! :thumb:  :thumb:

Danny - Thanks for removing the reference to SL's speaker from your commercial web page.  As you know, the comparison was invalid due to the fact that the speakers were being operated with an amplifier that did not meet the requirements specified by the designer.

Danny Richie

And thank you for taking my offer and agreeing with my request.

Our deal:

"I'll make a deal with you though if you agree to it. I'll remove reference to the Orion from my web site, if you quit trying to bust my balls all the time about any of my products. No more negative posts on AC, the Orion forum, or any other forum."

It's a deal!  :banana piano:

Now play nice with the rest of the folks on AC.  8)

Hi Danny,
I am perfectly happy with the OB 5 ! I am trying to find a reason to get the V2 !
Can you elaborate  the differences in the sound between V2 and OB 5 ?
What are the differences in placement ?
Just to let you know the OB5 's   performance has received very favorable comments from demanding audiophile  friends ?
Many thanks from a happy customer !

The V-2 has a few advantages.

1) It has a couple of db higher sensitivity.
2) It is open baffle right down into the lower ranges. This keeps them from loading the room and makes them more room friendly.
3) It is an easy impedance load and demands very little current since it's own amp is handling the bottom end.
4) The SA-1 amps used with the V-2 allows for complete control of the output level of the bottom end.
5) The V-2 plays lower.
6) Dynamics favor the V-2.
& V-2 works better with low powered amps.

The OB-5 has a couple of advantages too.

1) As smooth as the output level is on the V-2, the OB-5 is even smoother.
2) Spectral decay is a little cleaner with the OB-5.

They both have to be at least 3 feet out into the room.

I am moving a few of these but I have plenty more left.

I only....(only!....hehe) have the original V-1.....you really do have to hear these.
Today I spent 5hrs with them after a 2 wk stint of out of town....like old friends......
From Katie Melua to old VH......just incredible dynamics.....and a sound stage to die for.
If the V-2 is half as good.....wow!.......deal of the century.

I'm sure I'd be happy with the V1, just as much as you are  :thumb:

I agree with you PDR.
I am also the proud owner of a pair of V-1, love them. I am now building a pair of V-2, can't wait to hear the difference between the V1 and V2.
For my evaluation, I will drive the V1 and V2 with my newly acquired Niteshade Audio SE 10 wpc amplifier and with also my new purchase a Rega Apollo CDP. (Line filter : Majik Buss and Signal cable OFCéSilver interconnects.)
I will post my findings sometime next month. Stay tune.

Hello Danny,

Quote
They both have to be at least 3 feet out into the room.

I assume this means 3 feet from the back of the speaker?

What would the consequences be for only having a V2 or OB5 about a foot out into the room?  Just trying to understand to decide whether or not it is a compromise I can live with.

Thanks.

If it is too close to the wall then the reflection from the wall will have a short enough delay time compared to the front wave that it will sound like a time smear.

Now I can understand Danny's statement- time smear - after I was able to listen to some OB speakers last weekend. I have a better understanding of whey they need to be pulled away from the wall.....too bad as I was considering the V2s but they won't work in my situation.
